Oh mah gawsh I'm famous!
I need my own facebook page for "Liking" now.

But really, adding the ability to "like" posts or threads would be pretty nice.

More so to keep things neutral (rather than saying you "like" it or thanking a person for a post) would be a rep system like most forums.

A rep system doesn't necessarily have to be visible in a point amount (but it can be), it just simply needs to show on a post that someone thought the post was worthwhile, and the post was therefore praised.

Just saying.

in Game pre-orders Post #290614
Back on topic.
I pre-ordered Mass Effect 2, and for some reason Splinter Cell: Conviction.

I also pre-ordered New Vegas but had to cancel that in order to use the money for something much more important. ):

Otherwise I'm not big on pre-orders USUALLY because I'm broke.

in Mods going commercial Post #290284
I also heard rumours that the new They Hunger on the Source engine was to be a commercial release right before they stopped updating the site and vanished off the face of the Earth.
Rumors nothing. They outright said the game was going to be retail, I don't know to what extent, I just knew you'd have to buy it.
Also last I heard, they stopped updating because a lead person on their team fell severely ill or something? I think...

I think the opposite of that. Our name kind of sucks really. The Whole Half-Life. Kay... so we have a whole... half-life. So this like changing "The Dark Brown Soft Drink (because Coke isn't black)" into Coca-Cola.

I think the first step that should be made is moving THIS TWHL to a new server, THEN designing it so that if we do lose hosting, we'll already be gone, leaving no confusion.

NWHL.com is so far the best name.
Who suggested this? I didn't see it anywhere.
With that said it sounds dumb, if we keep half-life in the name, we need to take out the "whole" and plus when saying acronyms, W's don't roll of the tongue. BOO.

But I do think catering to other games and engines would be better suited with a site not mentioning half-life or such.

in Making a two-person arena Post #288698
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b91/ExoSennsOan/soupy.jpg

K so look at that. First two opponents start in the arena in a box or something. After timer ends, box goes away.
Red lines are close doors, brown lines are open doors. Winner goes to blue square which would be a switch to open all red doors and close all brown doors. Then they go to green which is a switch to close all red and open all brown. The area between the doors is only big enough for one person, so it won't be like a mass rush of fail or anything.

Edit: You could have a winner area on both sides, one for each time, blocked off by team specific barriers (like the ammo rooms or what not) so that winners aren't killing eachother. Or something. Maybe they would lead back to the respective spawns
Make sense?

Just going to say this now... even if this mod surfaces, no one will play deathmatch. Goldsource MP is really down to CS 1.6, and then a little bit spread across HL DM, TFC, and DOD. It'd really just be a waste of time to try and implement DM.

The performance (and the price) comes from the fact that each SSD has inside of it a very small (varies depending on drive space) black hole.

The game engine that runs FO3 and New Vegas is VERY picky about each and every detail of your hardware and software. If they make a new Fallout in the future, it definitely needs a brand new game engine (or to reuse someone else's).
This explains why it runs FLAWLESS out of the box for some, and needs all kinds of patches, updates, 1st and 3rd party, to run anywhere close to stable.

It's pretty BS.

There are variables for everything. What you did, what you did to your companions, what your companions did, the sidequests you did, the choices within choices that you made. I mean, there is probably about oh... at least a few hundred different combinations of endings.

But it's not as important as showing the speed of 2 or more, and that's the real problem.

In this age, single-core CPUs are mostly artifacts from the stone age among anyone who even knows what a CPU does.
Unless (a) core(s) is/are malfunctioning, the speed of the cores in almost all multi-core processors are the same...

With that said, I like turtles.

Just like Rads. Only difference is when you gain/lose SLP FOD or H20 it doesn't have a little bar like it does for RAD. But really, it's not hard at all. Even the changes to stuff like stimpacks over time, really not that bad.

House isn't part of the battle. It's between the NCR and the Legion, it's just a matter of whether other parties join in. If Caesar is dead ever at all, whether or not you're sided with the Legion, he is succeeded by another (I forget his name) and if the Legion wins the battle and Caesar is dead at the same time (therefore implying you sided with the Legion) than the Legate becomes Caesar.

Hell no. I think those are great. Now, "map a trashed apartment building with no working lights or water in a post-apocalyptic setting" would be too specific.

I like abandoned hospital, leaves plenty of barriers to make it a contest, but plenty of room for creativity to flow.
I also like the idea of a post-apocalyptic/post-nuclear city or so.

I picked up that set as soon as I could. I have never been in bad standing with the NCR either. Also, that Kings quest, I simply spiked Pacers Jet with Psycho and it killed him, problem solved.

I agree. I experienced this simply by leaving my 360 controller plugged in during Fallout 3. Upon playing, the keyboard and moused were locked, so I picked up the controller and everything had been changed to reflect controller buttons. So I gave it a try... AWFUL. I then proceed to unplug the controller so I could play as normal.

With this in mind, the way they made these games is almost genius. All versions are so completely similar, they probably had to do very little tweaking to "port" it to a different system, rather than make 3 separate versions of the games.

I don't think you can TRULY beat it without killing anyone. I don't know ALL the scenarios for the final mission, but it usually involves killing someone. I guess it might count if your companions do it?

So far, every time I've gone through, I've always killed House. I figure though, if you're going to do it, do it while he still likes you. If you blow up his stuff, or anger him before hand, you have to deal with those pesky bots before trying to take him out. Which is much more of a hassle if you let him upgrade them...

Karma does shit in this game. Most everything is based on faction reputation and skills.

Also, I invented a simple little idea for if/when you finally get bored of NV.

Start a new character on the hardest difficulty, hardcore mode on, and simply try to survive. The catch is, no reloads. The only saving you can do is for insurance against crashes, freezes, lockups, or otherwise, or if you're simply done for the moment and wish to continue at a later time. If you die, you die. If you find yourself in a sticky situation, you can't reload. Only exception being a game-killing glitch.

I call it Super Hardcore mode. B) It's kind of like the Iron Skull handicap in Halo, or the mutation in L4D2.

Also Medium and Heavy armor slow you down if you wear them, and if you're using a 2-handed weapon, having it holstered will also help you run faster. One-handed weapons won't affect run speed though.

Second playthrough. Went straight to Vegas, stealth-boying past the death claws that would have surely been my demise. Killed Benny, killed Dr. Mr. House, and plotting with Yes Man on how to proceed. I might blow up the Brotherhood of Steel again... or maybe I won't. We'll see. Also, Hardcore hasn't really presented much extra challenge. And by turning in a couple snow globes, both VERY easy to find, and helping Mr. House a little from the get-go, I'm over 8,000 caps and under level 10.

I happened to make my way into some friendliness with the NCR. But after meeting Caesar, I decided the Legion seemed like too much fun. Unfortunately, the problem with Caesar's tumor ended up... bad. BUT, I speech-passed my way out of it, and moved on. My latest issue? Assassinating the president... I'm set up, but I can't get close without the NCR raping me...

Also, the game suggested HIGH settings, but it causes HORRIBLE frame-drop, and even with viewing distances dropped greatly, and most all effects turned off, I still get a fair bit of nasty frame loss. I'm not running anything in the background so... anyone else getting this?

There's no way I'm buying Fallout New Vegas, it will probably just crash a million times before I get anywhere.
I decided to take a little "demo" run of it, as you will, and about 3 hours in, no crashes, no bugs, all considering it's also an illegitimate copy of the game.
With that said, New Vegas, in my opinion, is VERY different from FO3.

in Some guy rants about goldsource Post #286553
Good luck breaking down the metals into a form that you can actually consume. Don't know too many people that can eat sheet metal, much less an aluminum block. And god forbid you own a Mitsubishi, iron block motors... then there is the fluid which would surely kill you after consuming.

Possible, just not logical.

As I said above, it really seems like he was just nerd-raging for a short while, and used that comparison as a silly way to vent. It's apparent he still is active with in the goldsource community seeing as he's played Urby's work, and was compiling a map of his own during the rant.
