I'm currently working on a mod called Half Life: Portal Study, where you play as a former S.W.A.T. member, however you retired and decided to get an MIT degree. After 2 years working at Black Mesa, wearing a scientist labcoat as the suit, you are an assistant to Dr. Gary Jordanson. After delivering the sample, and on your way back to Sector I, the RC hits. You, fall into the bottomless pit by the tram system, where you awake in Waste Processing. I haven't really pieced together much after this, but here's the bottom line.

I have my own weapons, but I need a model of a scientist labcoat to replace the HEV suit model, I need a little bit of voice acting, and some people who are good with scripts who can help me keep this game interesting, and with a good story. Please respond in comments if you want to help with this mod.

-Dimbark
I've quit portal study completely, I'm changing a lot of stuff in it, but I'm now calling it Potential Study. You play as Jerry Greens, a 23-year-old scientist who got an MIT Degree. He got hired at Black Mesa because of how convincing his theries were. He was put in Theretical Physics, but he still delivers the package and the bullsquid still destroys the platform and all that.
I'm still looking for a model of a standing labcoat for the player's HEV Suit replacement. I've started over again on the training course to get every loose end tied up. I think I have permission with the person who made the scientist arms, but they were an edit of the arms in Blue Shift which were an edit of the arms in sven coop.
I think Skals is almost finished with the opening tram sequence and I'm still working on voice actors. I recommend people help in my mod, my team is recruiting considering its only 2 people right now. Thank you!
THEORETICAL DISASTER!!! THAT IS THE NAME!!! DON'T FORGET IT!!! I'M NOT CHANGING IT! I still need a LOT of resources that were listed above, and my ccomputer has to reinstall all of this, it had a bad drive.
So... I have to restart. Lucky for me, I just have to get some models and start over on a few of the maps.

hey buddy, I'm an avid watcher of HL1 mods and I was wondering how much progress do you and your team have, like how many maps etc. Also if you're using spirit please don't use the buggy ones..
Posted 14 years ago2010-11-01 06:43:40 UTC Post #286731
Also if you're using spirit please use 1.5a4
Fixed. Really, it's the only version, official or non-official, that I've found to work without bugs or, in the case of non-official versions, features that make no sense and you don't want. (ie, you somehow get a silencer as soon as you pick up the Beretta the mod forces you to use)

You're looking for weapon coders, eh? I'm still new to Half-Life coding but I've managed to make a P90 and make the DLLs compile in MS Visual C++ 2008. Maybe I could code one or two weapons for you?

Awesomeness. Can you make a second type of SMG and a good meelee weapon? Those are the really the only weapons I would want or need, but the more the merrier!

I haven't really made any models yet, but I could start working, but we can look for some.
I also need your current source code.

Judging by your reaction I'm guessing you haven't coded anything yourself. Is it Spirit 1.5a4 you're using?

Also, don't the weapons go in the event, model, and sound files or is there more?
Dimbeak DimbeakRotten Bastard
Posted 14 years ago2010-11-01 16:43:20 UTC Post #286740
The weapons are coded into the DLLs (written in the programming language C++). They use models, sounds and sprites. The "event" files are just meaningless files that can contain anything, like the text "Hello" or "Lorem ipsum". They are for some reason required for client-side predictions. I think Valve meant to put something in them, but didn't and didn't bother to remove them and the engine's dependence on them. If you want an example of weapon code take a look at this old VERC article.

Great. I'll start working right away. Know though, that I don't have much free time and that I'll only be working as long as it's fun.
I will need your first and last name (for the credits) so pm me.
My name is Oskar (first name) Larsson H?gfeldt (last names). Email, website, etc. can be found on my profile page.
Also, its for Source when my mod is Goldsource.
What is for Source? The code in the article isn't, if that's what you mean.

Welcomes you to the team
Well, I'm going to post the first weapon model, right now my source code is as normal as the regular hl code. I haven't edited anything in it. The first model (or picture idea) will be on my wiki soon.

Also, I re-made the model of my character, check it out. You can download it.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13952393/player.mdl

The first model I would like, which I have no pictures or examples of, is an AK-47, slot 3, runs on shotgun ammo.

ahhhh, potatis how did you get source code to work with 2008 express? I couldn't get client to work on it so I can't do weapons
Posted 14 years ago2010-11-01 18:50:26 UTC Post #286749
If I remember correctly I messed around with compiler arguments and removed a couple of 'extern "C"' blocks. After getting rid of all the compile errors, that is.

Weapon slots and ammunition types are programmed in the hl/client DLL code and aren't part of the model. Why would you want it to use shotgun ammo? It's quite easy to create new ammo types. Also, just to be clear, I don't do models.

Edit: Sorry for double posting.

Well, okay, I can look for a model around fpsbanana. I'll also get an ammo box and put them for download here. You can make a new ammunition.

You realise that there would be more than one Dr.Green in the BMRF right? Hell, the name you've gone with instead makes me thing "Walter Bennett" from Blue Shift. :P

The signs are way too thick. The desk could also use some work to make it look more like a desk and less like a block.

Textures could use some work too. The signs look like they were done in paint.
