in I can't compile anything. Post #281751
I've been making a map recently, and I didn't have any problems compiling for a while, but it stopped compiling properly. It started to not compile some things, as in it would compile world brushes but changes to entities or changes to brushes tied to entities (for example changing the texture on a button) wouldn't show up in the compiled map. Now it won't compile anything.
This is the compile log I'm getting:

The command failed. Windows reported the error:
"The system cannot find the file specified."

I didn't change any compile settings, it just began to do this by itself.
I've been using Source Engine 2009, but I tried it with 2007 and that won't work either.

[Edit] It somehow fixed itself. I don't know how it did, but I'm probably going to end up reinstalling the SDK. I don't like the way it's changing how it works.

I like the cliffside home idea, and also rermake an area from HL. And I feel I must point out that Tetsu0's idea wouldn't work, as not everyone has a theme to their name. For example, my name is taken from my initials. I don't see how that would be mapped.

And from what I've seen of it, Halo: Reach is quite different than other Halo games. It's now somewhat class based, there are several classes with different abilities and/or weapon loadouts. It looks like it'll be much better than the other games. Although I don't think I'll ever get it. It's better, but not by enough.

Well if you're sure which weapons the player will have at this point (As in they won't have missed any) you can try using a player_weaponstrip at the start of the sequence, and then spawning the weapons at the players location at the end of the sequence. You'll need to guess how much ammo they have at that point, though.

That's because the null texture stops the face from being rendered.

I've noticed it doesn't happen to shapes that are split up, but there are a lot of shapes that would take a long time to split up. That one up there is a simplified representation of the brush that seems to split the most. I'll try and split it up though.

I've been making a prefab for the last day or so, but if I close the map, when I load it again several vertices have moved. Most of them only move half a unit or so, but some are more extreme, like in the picture.

It looks like crossing those bridges would be a quicker way to get to the beer than going over the northernmost bridge, so they must already be blocked off somehow. After all, in a zombie apocalypse, if you're going to take the long route, you had better have a good reason to.

You could perhaps have something take out the bridge after they get the beer, so they have to go south and cross the river somehow at the point between Greenwood Street and Oakland Park Road? It would mean more mapping, but it would keep things unexpected for the player.

Try using info_texlights

[copypasted from the rooms thread]
How to use:
info_texlights

This is special entity that Zoners Compile Tools uses to extract light data for a compile. It is very simple to use and Half-Life doesn't use it so it simply won't spawn making it a error free replacement for a .rad file.

How to use:
Create an entity, any entity, and rename it to info_texlights. Hammer will automatically disable smartedit because it does not recognise the entity. This is a good thing because you don't want to use smartedit. Now, lets say you have a light texture and want it to emit, hey, light. Edit the info_texlights and ADD a keyvalue. In the 'key' box enter the name of your texture, eg, mylight01. in the value box, enter the colour and brightness values, just like you would in a light.rad file. (red, green, blue, brightness) Its that simple. You can have as many entries as you want.

in Dream: Commune Post #279701
I had a weird one a while ago. I was a super hero (I don't know what my power was) and I got a distress call from a super hero buddy. I figured it's an emergency, and there's no time to use the stairs. I jumped off the balcony to the one below, and then off that to street level. I shattered both my tibias. I somehow managed to hobble to the nearest hospital despite having completely destroyed my legs, and walked up to the receptionist, before realising I was in America. I don't know what the healthcare system is actually like there but in the dream it meant that I would have had to pay a large amount of money upfront before being treated, so I walked to the other side of the room and made myself a set of splints out of some old straps meant to secure patients to stretchers.

It was very odd. I don't know what happened about the buddy that needed my help.
