Since i'm really new to the game, whatever map i would make will probably have terrible gameplay.Yeah, I hear ya...

I bought this because I wanted to map for the GameBanana Insurgency Contest, but I must say now I'm intrigued to play a FPS game with now crosshair, radar overview, nor kill notifications!
Considering the only shooter game I play really is CS, I'm finding the extra controls a little intimidating, but I'm slowly adjusting! Another thing I must say is this game is HARD and the maps are gigantic
I LOVE that it only takes a couple shots to kill, compared to CS where unless you get headshots, prepare to use half your clip.. It's also nice having a sprint and prone button again!(last game I played that had that was DoD:S!)
The weight system and many of the other features(that I'm still getting aquainted with), make for MUCH REALISM, and I'm really enjoying it! Incredible work, especially for a 3rd-party mod!

It's not about blaming anyone, it's about keeping people's attention.
If there's only a couple weeks, anyone intersted in the minicompo will get started right away. If you KNOW you have an entire month, more than likely it will get put off, and/or forgotten, or replaced by another task.. [/2 cents]

Lajron and I agree that you gave us too much time for this one Rimmeh-Atom! I heartily recommend no more than a fortnight or a bit more for the next one
Mine will easily be done with time to spare, and I've only worked on it a few half days max... 11 days left people, that's still PLENTY of time to build/refine your entry!

Ok then. I would disagree with your second point though, as my current minicompo map isn't even possible in GS, and I'm not using any Source-specific entities or 3D Skybox so far.
In GS, you make anything too big or too complicated it just gives up, spitting out the AllocBlock:full error when you try loading BSP

Is anyone dropping out because of the gulf of capabilities/resources between GS/Source engines? If yes, maybe we should consider switching this back to HL1 only?
I would be willing to switch my entry back to gs if that's the case, and we could add an extra week if anyone needed more time..

The reds/oranges/yellows/magentas look way too Looney Tunes for the theme. So many ideas for color variation, so little time. Btw rebuilding the ship, but I think I need to start over again and make it less round

I was thinking more of a unofficial plug to the minicompo, so peeps at GB could decide to join if they wanted, but that's neat to know they would possibly allow us to host/sponsor an official compo there someday?

Maybe consider writing a quick tutorial for others that want to get into blender? I know there are a lot out there already, but it's different when it's written from a HL mapper's perspective

I think it's freeform Rim, he just has to redo the links and headings, because GB doesn't accept our bbcode.
Some progress last night
The weird rainbow sky is done by using giant rotating cylinders, 4 length-wise and 2 crossways on each end, with the rotation such that the left/right/up/down all rotate into each other.
This creates a quite interesting Warp-Speed effect, and acts as a nice backdrop for the spaceship, tho I will probably limit the palette to blues and purples. Hopefully, the ship will turn out good enough to offset the gimmicky background

And people were so doubtful even though this sort of thing happens every timeThis minicompo is not dead by a long shot, if that's what you mean
There are far more impressive WIP posted for this one already than the previous minicompo, so if anything I would guess we'll have a better turnout this time, and don't forget dem prizes doe! (including yours if you enter, I'm guessing 7-8 entries minimum)
The only thing I would say for the future is to keep the time period short, a fortnight or a little more MAX, to help keep everyone focused

...since AVG went to shit...Indeed. When AVG got too annoying to use anymore, I switched to MSE for a short while, but didn't like it any better...
TBH, I've been "ridin' dirty" with no AV whatsoever for over a year, and zero problems so far..

Source mappers make sure you rename the diretory of the materials to "colors", so it matches the VMT! I did the same thing Rimmeh, didn't even realize it!

Kachito, make sure you're not skipping RAD, else like Rim said, it'll laaag (As Alberto suggested, maybe try increasing the texture scale to hurry RAD up)

Otherwise have no idea! That other error you mentioned sounds like an old Sledge issue unless I'm mistaken, so make sure you have the latest version! maybe Windows Firewall or UAC is cockblocking the updater somehow?

That aformentioned bug had nothing to do with the arches or the lighting, but could have been caused by using Hollow to build the skybox, OR having a really big skybox? (Will do more testing..)
I feel like I've used Hollow before in Sledge without any problems? Maybe not? I use hollow a lot in hammer 4 with never an issue afaik..
And to think I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to make and remake the Arch, and all along it was the fucking skybox! RAWWWWRRRRR!

What batch compiler are you using that demands a .map? (Atom's can handle rmf/vmf, can't it?)
I learned today Sledge does not like 90-segment arches, so may be switching to source for my minicompo entry. It could be the problem that it's also rotating and is set to glow on additive, IDK still testing
