You drank Gasolina
What, you want some? I could hook you up with some.
The guys at Columbine were complete outcasts, and they saw it as being forced lower than everyone else, for no good reason, but in the army at least you know that you're not the only one, and that what's happening is for a reason.
That's why there are also military boot camps, to weed out the undesirables, the ones that will crack up easily. By the way, I was in the Navy, but attached to a Marine Corps unit.

@ naserve:

Okay then, for argument sake, I will take the moron label back. And yes, let's say they were victimize through bullying that lead them to their depression. Now what? Does that clear them of their actions? You say that I spend 4 years having every part of your life criticized and shit on for 7 hours a day 5 days week. Well, I can do better: try having to go to an urban high school infested with street gangs, some armed to the teeth, and on occasion being menaced with death, all because you don't pay them their weekly "tax".

I have no less than 7 trips to the hospital for bad wounds suffered during school fights, some with knives, when trying to defend myself from unprovoked attacks during my 3 years in high school. Did I get depressed? Yes, a bit. Did I go crazy and go on a shooting spree? Hell no. I could have if I wanted too, I had easy access to guns at the time from certain family members.

Yep, those were my happy years at high school in sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico. Oh, that's not the end of it, oh no! Ever heard of a little campaign called Operation Desert Storm? That's right, I was in it. My high school years were nothing compared to the shit I went through during Desert Storm. Did I get depressed and bitter when I got out of the military? A bit. Did I kill any one afterwards as a civilian? No. Why?

Because even though I went through bouts of depression at times after the war, and had some people spit at my face for going to war in the first place, I still never went crazy, all because I was not weak minded. Not everybody can claim this, especially those Columbine shooters.

Hey, some people in the government, media and a few other groups blame violent video games (FPS) for today's violence in society. And some of these same "watchdogs" go even further as to say many of today's young soldiers are even more aggressive and less humane all because of the growing influence of violent video games in their lives, thus causing wars to be all the more crazier in the battlefield.

Now, if you ask me, which I did personally see some combat in the first gulf war, think this line of thinking is bullshit. All this pointing the finger at video games and movies is just passing the buck to something else. Now, I do admit there are some weak minded and emotionally disturbed individuals out there that should stay away from violent games, like those morons who committed the Columbine high school killings.

These things are nothing but prototypes. The military experiments with all kinds of inane tax-money-wasters that never come close to production, and these are good examples.
Ever heard of the Air Force's Predator drones? It is very real, and very deadly, and yes, some of them are prototypes, but that does not stop them from killing. Here's a photo of one sending a gift to the terrorists:

Alright now....I think I'm gonna freak-out some of you here with this crazy stuff I am about to show you all:
If/when we get practical technology to make a super human exoskeleton, why not just make it a robot, and control it like any other drone?
It's been there, and it's been done, just look at these nifty pics: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=military+robots&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=zsEaSt7FNcqPmAer9JDXDA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title

Remember that YouTube video link I gave earlier showing that Japanese exoskeleton demonstration? Well then here's a video of another Japanese invention, a full blown, self articulated, two legged walking humanoid robot! Some of you might have already seen it, it was in the news a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHSxKf7oOxA

After seeing that Japanese robot video, ask yourself....What would it be like if a real life robot like that Japanese one, being militarized in to a armed robo-soldier, and thrown in to a conflict might look like? Well, check this video out: http://www.livevideo.com/video/C57EEEEDBA404718B1214CC9C6705BCF/new-military-robot.aspx?lastvcid=217383

Now, pay attention to this: I take it most of you here are familiar with the Imperial Walker from the Star Wars movies, called the "AT-AT" (All Terrain-Armored Transport), right?

Keep that image in your head. Now watch this video for any similarities on a new U.S. Army robot called "Big Dog": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww

Just look at the American automobile industry. In a few years, they would all be extinct.
If the American auto industry was left on their own without no outside interference, yes I would agree with you, satchmo. But that's not the case here, since you might have already been hearing about in the news, the U.S. government has been pumping BILLION$ upon BILLION$ of tax payer's money in to the car makers. Letting the American auto industry go out of business will have unimaginable consequences, not to mention a very toxic, political fallout for Washington DC. To make the point short: Letting Detroit die is not an option, period! You can bet President Obama's administration is very aware of the dangers this massive industry collapse could cause, and therefore he will do everything in is power to avert it, at any costs.

Haven't exoskeleton suits for soldiers been development for quite some time now?
Why yes, World Crafter....exoskeleton suits have already been invented, by the Japanese,....who else? But unlike in the U.S., in Japan the exoskeleton is being mostly developed for humane applications.

For an example: Assisting very old people, or people with spinal cord injuries, so they can move around normally without a wheel chair. Also, the use of exoskeletons in the heavy industry, like construction, is also being studied by the Japanese. Here's a youtube video of a Japanese real exoskeleton in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSP46lWvxJ4
It's gonna be way too expensive to outfit every soldier with this crap. If this stuff even exists in 20 years, maybe a few lucky soldiers will get to use it in special situations
You are right. Most likely it will be special forces who use this new tech.

Well, With that tech, nothing's stopping the next corrupt president from invading canada
That would depend on how much oil reserves Canada has. But in reality, America's southern neighbor, Mexico....would most likely be the one invaded. They have plenty of oil reserves, plus their drug cartel's wars are spilling in to the U.S. side, giving the American President all the excuses to do a surprise invasion.

As a former, proud member of the U.S. military, I try to be in the loop as much as I can, when it comes to the latest gear in America's arsenal. Case in point: The U.S. Army "Future Warrior Program". I have known about this "black-ops" project a bit from back in my service days when I was in the U.S. Navy. Now, it seems that it is getting some real media attention. What we are talking about here, is the evolution of the standard Army infantry soldier in to a super human, high tech weapon like never seen before. So, here's a quick recap of it:
User posted image
Aided by "smart drugs," enhanced with prosthetics, and protected by a lightweight suit of armor, this soldier of the future possesses near super-human capabilities and weapons that would make even Iron Man jealous. He's suited up in an "exoskeleton" - essentially a Storm Trooper-esque external shell - that allows him to carry heavy loads. Electronics integrated in his outfit allow for simultaneous language translation, automatic identification of potential foes, and video-game-like targeting. If the soldier is tired, overworked, or injured, neural and physiological sensors automatically send an alert to headquarters.

Games getting leaked before their official launch is something that's always going to happen, there's just too much corruption out there. And when they do come out on the commercial market, they always for sure get cracked and end up on the torrent circuit anyway.

Of course, the most famous example of something getting leaked way before the official launch, has to be the Wolverine movie. This was something the news media jumped all over, it was just unprecedented that a perfect, high quality copy of a major motion picture got stolen like that many weeks before hitting theaters. I wonder if they ever caught the guy....

in The rumored handheld Xbox360 Post #267313
The Zune had a rough start, but with the newer and improved models coming out, it is still hanging in there. The Zune might never match the iPod's success in our life times, but at least it is selling better than Sony's best MP4 players. But personally, I still prefer the iPod.

Now, can anybody here really say truthfully that they would not be enticed on a new handheld with the power of a high end gaming laptop, and according to the teamxbox site, sell for only $200? Remember that the PSP sold for $299 when it first came out.

And another thing, since this xYz handheld is a Microsoft product, it will most likely run on some version of Windows, and with it being powered by a NVIDIA GeForce graphics chip, well....the possibilities of it being also able to play a regular PC game, are at least in theory, plausible.
Let me guess. All that and 2 hrs of battery life.
Most of the battery juice will be sucked by the GPU. And according to the GPU maker NVIDIA, "over 100 hours audio and 10 hours HD video playback".

The project, codenamed "xYz," is said to feature a WVGA touch screen and a way to play music and movies on both the device as well as the Xbox 360. Basically, it's going to be a connected handheld gaming system with rich multimedia features. Supposedly it will be powered by a special version of NVIDIA's Tegra "computer-on-a-chip".

This mobile platform is the first one to offer HD-video output via a HDMI connector and the visual power of a GeForce GPU in the palm of your hand. The following video will show you how much power we?re talking here:

Gamestop still sells used, Wal-Mart won't be able to sucessfully buy and sell used games like gamestop does.
Comparing Gamestop to Wal-Mart is like comparing a Chihuahua to a Great Dane, simply no contest. Wal-Mart is just too massive, too powerful and too rich too fight off without some serious backup. Whenever Wal-Mart enters a new market, they do not aim for second place, and that's a guarantee! Hell, Wal-Mart just last year bought out the largest retail chain in China, thus becoming the top retailer in that country. Wal-Mart has the U.S., Mexico, Canada, most of the Caribbean, U.K., and about half of Europe is in their back pocket. How can you fight and compete against that?

Don't get me wrong, I am not necessarily against liberal issues, what I have a problem with, is the extreme versions of it. That's why I said, quote: "far left liberal", with the emphasis on "far left". Now, that extreme rule also applies to the far right conservative agenda, and again, I am against that too. I guess what I am trying to say here, both sides of the ideology equation have their radical fringes, and that type of extremism is what causes further divide among all groups.

Now I will go on the record as to say that I consider myself to be a conservative, but a moderate one at that, meaning that I do have room for the liberal way of thinking, as long as it remains within the range common sense. This of course goes for conservative thinking too.

I have not been at a EB Games store for over 3 years, so I don't really know if they still deal with used games or not, but for the times that I did go to my local EB Games when I used to live in Reading, Pennsylvania U.S., the folks at the store did inspect in front of me any used game disk that I was interested in buying.

And on top of that, I also got a store warranty to go with it. But that was years ago, things could have changed by now. As for the Gamestop stores, I have never bought a used game there, so I cant really comment on it.

Well, like many of you already know, a lot of eyes in the media are pointed towards space right now, specifically on the space shuttle's very risky repair mission of the Hubble telescope. If you are one to be interested on this event, then you might be very interested on the following:
User posted image
DigitalSpace.com, a provider of online 3D simulations has joined forces with NASA and has come up with an online, interactive 3D simulation of the space shuttle on a repair mission to the Hubble Telescope. You can move around it. Zoom in, and even look for missing items for the astronauts. There is sound so you can hear the astronauts? conversations.

To quote: ?Just in time for this week's Shuttle servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, our Hubble Educational Spacewalk Simulation (ESS) built for NASA over the past year is live and can be downloaded and installed from NASA.gov! We have an easy link to the NASA-hosted simulation at the top of our homepage at: http://www.nasa.gov/audience/foreducators/spacesuits/simulation/index.html

?In "ESS" you can "be the astronaut" going through three major spacewalk tasks to replace components on Hubble. Hear the astronauts? voices (from real training), zoom around the shuttle/hubble and Earth at high speed, get info on the procedures, and look for a series of "lost" objects in the cargo bay. Its a great experience for K-12 students & educators, museums and just plain space fans. This is a windows-only version that requires a good 3D card (not basic chipsets). Other OS versions are in the works.?

It is packaged as an installer that puts the program onto your PC and is an approximately 30 meg download. With a game like experience, and excellent graphics and modeling, all in all this is a fun experience and worth checking out.

as opposed to say, Flash, which is apparently the most installed software in the world.
Okay then, since you brought up Flash, let's talk about that. Now, you did say you have permanently disabled Java on your PC, fine then. That means there is no point asking you to check out that Java 3D scene. So, let's go to plan B then,...Flash. I am going to go out on a limb here and assume you still have Flash enabled on your PC, right Penguinboy? Well if you do, your in luck, Flash can also display full, 3D scenes in real time just like it's Java counterpart can.

I am not really preaching Java, just pointing out it's multi-browser, platform and OS's support. I myself don't like Java that much either, I find it to be somewhat resource hungry, thus slowing down the PC. The way I see it, it's just a "necessary evil" that one have to contend with, but at least, it's a manageable one. Hell, a lot of cell phones have Java built in to them, but I suspect it's mostly to play Java games. I think Java is one of those things that you either like it or hate it, no in betweens. It's use it's really a niche thing, it's not for everything or everybody.

Yes. Noclip ? It's like typing sv_cheats 1 and then noclip in the halflife console, if you understand me.
Oh that....I have seen others do it, but I have not done it personally. The thing about the 3DXplorer.com 3D Java applet, is that it is basically a Java powered chat room, but in full 3D, that's all. It has no type of game engine built in to it, so no games can be played on it.

The only interactivity it has, is to move around with your 3D avatar, chat with others, play some embedded music or videos on the scene you might have and maybe activate some animated, moving objects, and that's it. So I don't think there is any equivalents of a Noclip for 3DXplorer's Java 3D Chat scenes, so no, sorry.

The only real, practical use this could have, is to maybe showcase some 3D models you might have made yourself in real time 3D in some "virtual showroom" of your creation. This way, anybody online can see them in actual 3D without downloading a browser plugin, gamer or non-gamer. This way, you can maximize the amount of people that can see your work.

Nice to know you approved of it, The_(c)Striker. When you say "make it faster", I take it you mean making the first person (or avatar) navigation speed to move along more faster, right? If that's the case, yes,....I can do that. I will get to it as soon as I can and let you know when I do.

As for including a "noclip" mode, I will need you to elaborate a bit further on that, I am not sure exactly on what you mean. To be honest, I did not really port a bsp format file to a java application. What I did was, to first extract the bsp's mesh along with all it's textures using Crafty's export feature. Crafty can do this and save the map as a .obj 3d format file. From there, open the .obj model with any 3D editor that can open a .obj 3d file and save it to any of the following formats: .3DS, Collada or VRML. Why these three formats? Because these are the only ones that 3DXplorer.com uses for their 3D Java applets. As for reading a .map format manual, yea, I might have glanced through it once.

One thing you need to also know about this 3D Java applet platform from 3DXplorer.com, is that it is still in Beta development, so it is not perfect yet. But it is still fun though.

Since we are in the subject of time travel, let me ask you all this question: Anybody here knows exactly what hell is a "Paradox"? I have heard that word being mentioned a few times over the years whenever the time travel subject popups.

Let me give you an example of what a "Paradox" could be created from:

Let's say that one day I decide to travel back in time to a period when my parents have not met each other yet, much less conceive me. Now, lets say that I meet them before knowing each other, and for some reason or other, I get in to an argument with them, and kill them. Now, common sense will say that with my future parents dead, I will no longer be able to be born and exist in this world. Now, here's the problem:

With my parents dead, me not being born at all and not existing at all as consequence to this, how will I have been able at all to have gone back in time in the first place to kill my parents if I did not exist in the first place to do so? This dilemma is what some people connect to it being a Paradox. But I think that's just a cheap way of putting it to simply when one does not know what really happened. I have never really heard no body in all my life explain in full detail what really is a full blown Paradox in all it's flavors. So if anybody here can expand further on this, please do.

I do have another possible explanation to all this, and it involves Parallel Universes. But I wont get in to that just yet, need to get drunk first so I can think better.

Panera Bread is awesome.
You bet it was awesome! After a year of working there making fresh & hot panini sandwiches and hand tossed salads, I just had to quit. I was getting too fat on all that delicious, gourmet sandwiches made with all that scrumptious bread! Oh, and don't get me started on their freshly baked, mouth watering BAGELS!!! Oh man, I wish there was a Panera Bread where I live here in Puerto Rico, but the nearest one from me is in the state of Florida, right across the Caribbean sea.....SHIT!

I once worked for about 1 year at a Panera Bread cafe when I lived in Pennsylvania a few years ago. At Panera Bread, they bake something like 17 different kinds of breads, my personal favorite being the French Baguette.

Here's their bakery menu page: http://www.panerabread.com/menu/bakery/breads.php

Well, after seeing that Flat Earth Society site, one can never be sure in this damn age. Now, I do think the earth is shaped like a doughnut. I heard Homer Simpson say it once.

Damn. This was a happy going thread until it entered in to the dark side. Oh well, all good things come to an end, I suppose.

Hey, I don't want to scare you guys, but The_(c)Striker is on to something. I am sure he was joking about the earth being flat, but apparently there is a group of people that actually do believe the earth is indeed flat! They call themselves "Flat Earth Society", and there's a whole bunch of them all over the world.

Their official motto is: "Deprogramming the masses since 1547"

They claim to have proof that the earth is really flat, and they say the so called "evidence" proving the earth is round, like for an example NASA photos from space showing the earth as a round planet, are fake!

I gotta tell ya, these people are completely out of their minds!!! Anyway, here is their home page: http://www.alaska.net/~clund/e_djublonskopf/Flatearthsociety.htm

You know, the more I think about this Warp Drive theory on traveling through worm holes, the more I keep remembering about the legendary Philadelphia Experiment.

Okay then, have it your way. Don't say later that I did not warned you, you just opened a can of worms with this. Others here might also let you know too, let's see what happens. You never know, it might blow over quick.
