I think you are right. My gamma was set too high in game, so I made the lights underpowered in Hammer. Now it's better. Still dark. But it works. :)

I haven't touched Hammer in forever. Years even. Today I found out there's this thing called JACK. So I've spent a couple hours messing about, and it's as fun as it ever was.

Hi, everybody!

Long time no post. Not gonna kill your browsers with a dozen 50MB images this time. Back in January I sold all my gear and switched to mirrorless Sony. My plan was to get myself a small camera with a single, good, all-around lens, and then I'd leave it at that.

Things did not go as planned. Sure, the camera is a lot smaller, but now I have too many lenses, and I can't store them properly. And my wallet hasn't exactly been too pleased with me. And, to be completely honest, the live-view viewfinder was way overhyped. It'll never replace the feel and accuracy of a real viewfinder.

However! I do take the camera out a lot more often, since it is a lot lighter, which was the end goal. So here are some shots I think came out all right.

Yep, that's about as far as I get. I set up a little test area where I played around with it, trying to get it right with different numbers, a.s.o, but I can't make it all the way (see image).

So while they're definitely lit up a light source from behind... well, you can see for yourself. I tried making the textures give off light, but that cancelled out the back-lit effect. And if I make them transparent with func_wall, the effect disappears too.

I'm obviously missing something else. I just don't know what. :-(

Hi! I wanna start by saying I tried to bump the other thread about Vluzacn's tools, but wasn't able to. So, a new thread it is!

These windows (http://forums.svencoop.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14552&d=1294594292) are so incredibly appealing to me, and I must have them in my map. But I can't figure out how to replicate it!

His notes on it are a bit limited, and doesn't get me all the way, and I'm not smart enough to figure out the rest myself. I can basically only get the backlit part semi-right, and then nothing else.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Here's a link to the thread http://forums.svencoop.com/showthread.php/38059-ARCHIVE-Custom-ZHLT-by-vluzacn?p=463614&viewfull=1#post463614.

Thanks. :-)

@TJB

The nebula was a fun challenge. It was made by stacking several images with Deep Sky Stacker. Since all I have is a wobbly tripod, and not-so light sensitive lenses, it's my only option. Here are some failed stacks, before I got into the groove. I used a 70-300 4/5.6 Sigma lens.

Astrophotography can be very tricky with just a camera. While you can capture some really amazing things with just a light sensitive lens and a sturdy tripod, you'll need a tracking mount if you want to capture anything reaaaaally interesting. But these cost upwards of 300-400 USD, so it's not really an impulse buy. I'm considering one, but so far short exposures are gonna have to do it for me.

in Mouse stutter with Windows 8 Post #318250
Terror: It's highly possible it's a Logitech issue, but I've had this mouse for many, many years, but only recently made the switch to Windows 8. So it might still be an issue with Win8, just not with Goldsrc. I'll investigate. Thanks!

Stojke: My Windows is up to the latest official release, as in Windows 8.1.

in Mouse stutter with Windows 8 Post #318245
Source games aren't an issue, and the mouse drivers are up to date. Only games running on Goldsrc are affected by this. This includes, but is not limited to: Counter-Strike 1.6, Half-Life, The Specialists, Condition Zero, Day of Defeat. It's kind of sad that I can't play my own creations.

in Mouse stutter with Windows 8 Post #318243
Hello. Last summer I upgraded to Windows 8. Bla, bla. Since then I haven't been able to play Goldsrc games. There's this odd mouse stutter that occurs, almost as if the raw input from Windows is conflicting with the games mouse sensitivity. But enabling (or disabling) raw input in the game options does nothing. Does anyone know any fixes to this? Or has anyone experienced something similar?

If it is of anyone's interest, my PC is powered by an AMD CPU and the mouse I use is a Logitech MX-518. Drivers are up to date.

Thaaaaaaaaanks.

This is the oldest thing I created that is still available online, (thankfully) the rest was wiped from existence long ago.
It had jump-pads a la Quake 3, and a pit of doom with a rocket launcher hovering above it for only the most courages to attempt to get.

edit: scratch that, http://www.dedust.ru/?id=9644 is the oldest. Who's sharing this?

thanks. :) unfortunately I don't play on any server, since the game's pretty much dead. as for the textures, most are borrowed from official (or whatever one should call them) specialists maps, and a small amount are freebies and/or made by moi.

There's some weird rumour going around that Half-Life 3 is going to be a PS3 exclusive. Obviously this is more than highly unlikely, but there is probably some truth in its fiction, and some fiction in its truth.

Thanks.

Edit: Appears to have been fixed by removing a cubemap. Very well, move along.

Buy a cheap, preferably used, DSLR (I'm thinking like a D60, or equal) and learn the basics of photography, stop trying to justify the purchase of a crappy video-camera to yourself, start shooting (raw) for real.
