I set it to the highest graphics, too. I did the same with Crysis 2. It's fun having an epic computer.
I can't wait for the 3rd party graphics overhauls to be released. I could also get some custom water shaders to pretty things up a bit more. Also can't wait for the dev tools, I want my own special mansion with tonnes of weapon racks and mannequins!

Also I'm making a quick assassination in front of peoples faces video :badass:

Edit: here's how I play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRiUHHHAzyY

Well, it seems that nothing happens when you kill a guard then steal all of his clothes.

I'll be honest, I really didn't think it'd ever run on my crappy computer, but it did. I'm now obligated to actually buy it.

Suppose I'll wait for the GotY edition.

Also, I had some weird graphics glitches where fire particles wouldn't show up (dragons looked like they were microwaving you with heat waves) and the world map was extremely blurry. Was all fixed by the enbseries dll, in case anyone else has had the issue
Posted 13 years ago2011-11-29 22:17:13 UTC Post #301180
Wow, a kid at school told me Skyrim has terrible graphics and its horrible because you have to "fight a dragon at the beginning of the game."

It's weird because he plays Oblivion.

Couldn't even be a shit PC, because my PC is shit and Skyrim is still beautiful. A beautiful image that changes 8 times per second, but beautiful nonetheless.

Also complaining about the dragon when you have about 10 invincible guards to tank it for you? If he knew about the dragon + dragon priest (or lich, if you prefer) fight, he'd go nuts.

Skyrim is a beautiful place, but the engine itself is pretty disappointing graphically imo.
I was expecting to be blown away and instead it just feels exactly the same as the fallout 3 engine. Low res textures and all. It's also fairly terribly optimized in places. Some interior dungeons suffer unexplainable framerate drops even on my super rig. Urby noticed them as well and his pc was almost £3,000 iirc.

It's a great game, but so many things piss me off about it.

That's because there is a bug in Skyrim, all the games 2048x2048 textures and 1024x1024 are failing to load and are instead replaced by their crappier 512x512 counterparts, making the game look 2/4x worse than it should be. The developers are trying to figure out why the proper textures aren't being rendered so in the future patches this will be fixed.

Skyrim has a wizarding college.
That wizarding college has an expansive library.
Characters make repeated references to the fact that such a large collection of magical books creates a powerful magical field.
The librarian is not an ape who says "oook."

What gives?

Really? I love the dungeons because they're the only place I get upwards of 40 FPS.

Outdoors is where I start crawling at 8 FPS.

i get like 60fps average outside but some interiors take me down to 15ish. Ultra settings.

Same here, Archy. I've noticed this engine handles candles and torches really poorly. That's probably a reason for the drop.

And based off your response, Skals, I'm going to assume you actually have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

My experience of telling NVidia control panel to take priority over the game's own 3D capabilities was not great. The game froze on the loading screens and when I finally got it to work none of the particle effects appeared at all. Fire, Water, even clouds. Didn't even realise this until I told NVidia CP to let the game handle it all.

That sucks, it looks amazing. I got it working in CS:S, TF:2, L4D2, CoD 4, and even in-game in Starcraft 2. No problems so far, but now if my card bursts into flames I'll have an rough idea of what happened.

3 Imperials attacking a Stormcloak courier on a random road. I leap into action and slay the 3 imperials, noticing as I do that I gain a bounty in the nearby imperial town. Oh well, these things happen.

Go to talk to the stormcloak to see what she's doing.
"Hey! I recognise you! There's a bounty on your head! Pay up or go to jail!"

So she wants to arrest me for saving her life.

An Imperial camp had nearby bandits closing in and they began to shoot arrows at one another. I joined in to the fray but accidentally swiped too far and ended up hitting an Imperial. I killed the bandits, the entire camp and incapacitated the leader. After recovering he got up and talked to me as if nothing happened...

Yeah, now using 2k textures & the 4GB launcher. The fact that skyrim was limited to only using 2gb of my system memory is so retarded. No wonder there were framerate plunges.

In every open world game, I make a minimum of two characters; The first is me, the second is a female rouge who sneaks around stealing things and killing people for money. In Skyrim, she just punched one of the Battle-borns in the face for the sole purpose of breaking out of the Dragonsreach dungeon. I had some preparations made in advance, namely the unlocking of the prisoner belongings chest, but even so it was ludicrously easy. I had to pick a single novice level lock, then I snuck out through the sewers and waltzed out past a couple of guards.

While typing this post I just remembered I forgot to get my stolen goods out of the evidence chest. I guess I have to go back.

I'm the same. My first play through I play as Urby aka Me. I'm usually stealthy and prefer to pick off foes from a distance. No screens of Skyrim so here is me in F:NV

My second play through is always the hot psychopathic chick. She rarely makes friends. Again, no screens in Skyrim so here is Amethyst in Fallout 3 talking things over with Silver over coffee.

Went through the credits last night. Was surprised to learn that everybody's favorite insane murdering jester, Cicero, was voiced by none other than TWHL's Urby.

Either that or there's another Andrew Morris running around saying humorous things.
