I'm still tired of arrogant high school graduates attending their first semester of art college who have done modeling before. Funny thing is that they blow off there classes and never get any better at it.

I learned everything the hard way and I still use almost ALL of my old "pre-plugin" era methods because the plugins can't do what I need, or do it as good.

I got a microphone and was seconds away from running some TBRO3D drills, but turns out my soundcard doesn't record shit. So I'm sad. Returned the mic.

hopefully one day.... ;_;

Unfortunately there are many people that do indeed like to 'get into' modelingart in general to see 'if they like it' or 'because it seems cool' type bullshit, but I enjoy modeling as a hobby and I like to do it to alleviate stress. I can't really 'quit' it and I don't think I'll ever stop. :)

Some more bits and pieces.

Looks pretty good, if a bit...exaggerated in certain areas. Maybe a bit too big for realism. They also need to wear a ridiculous tie as per Employee Dress Code Section C-28b. I'm assuming there are four heads like the basic scientist?

As for modelling, I got into it to supplement my mapping and modding in general, but as it turns out I'm not very good. Which is why I haven't shared any of my terrible eyesores. Also, Crollo, that is a damn sexy colt.

Impossible for her to be able to wear a tie, she doesn't have the same type of shirt as the men. And as far as I know women don't wear ties very often anyhow...

Good argument, and good points back there hotdog. Nice map noSICK! Concept shmoncept. And i'm an aspiring architect...

art/ "Concept". You can choose to have one or not... In the end it's what is created that matters. No matter how you got there. Though "how you got there" ""could"" be part of it if you choose so.

At the same time I agree with Drago's theory that concept and reason adds a deaper level. It does/ can, but in this case apparently it wasn't necessary to get what he has to show. Learn from the creator and don't be blissful to reason. One's who create good work seem to have a compilation of deaper meaning and inspiration that might not come off so clearly as to the driving force. What inspires you?

For me memorie's, emotions and experiences are a major driving factor in everything I create.

Touche. I meant the M1911, I forgot that the M16 was manufactured by them. Although now that I can see the full image of the M16, it's great too.

Female scientist looks like a dude with boobs. Accent the curves of her body more, then have her coat buttoned up so its tighter around her form, giving her a considerably more feminine silhouette. She would likely never wear her badge on her nipple, and her tits are indeed too big.

It's kinda hard to do when the skeleton is still the regular scientist one, but I like the buttoned up coat idea. I'll try out some of the stuff you mentioned but I'm not guaranteeing it will look any better.

Nice work on the female scientist @Joe.. I don't think she's to large however
her waist probably could be a bit thinner and same goes for her legs as well.

Also nice work on "The Core" @Archie I'm a big fan of your mod. I hope to see a release soon.. X-mas would be hot. :D

Posted 13 years ago2011-11-29 12:35:27 UTC Post #301176
nope. all my maps are based on real-world locations I've visited/worked in.
If it was based on that shot it'd be a lot dirtier, but the real location isn't despite being 2 levels underground. For that reason I won't be making it look like it's been drenched.

I had a case of "mapper's block". Lol, I made one corridor and got stuck. So I drew a few floor plans and then drew one 3d to figure vertical gameplay as well. Now i'm going to make it in hammer at a really small scale just to model out "movement" and the basic plan. In architecture they call it "parti model". This is pushing me forward a bit.

I used to make maps as I went without knowing any idea of the floorplan which I now find a little missguided. I don't want my map to be too controlled by pre conceived restrictions but I do want control over the way it becomes layed out.

Edit:

zeeba that second shot looks wicked. what did you model the first one in?

Interesting about using the parti model. i should defintely try that sometime as well use floor plans, which sadly i don't think i've ever done yet.

Thanks. Yea its helping me develop the map. I made it real fast in hammer. Those orb things in the second screen are cool, you jump infront of them with a boost from the floor duct thingys and the orb opens and sucks you into it and takes you somewhere. I'm trying to come up with a bunch of new features like that for this map.
Posted 13 years ago2011-12-06 02:16:31 UTC Post #301318
That's a really neat method to flesh out a layout, zeeba! Love it.

This is still extremely WIP, but the atmosphere of this area is really starting to come together. You can pretty much ignore all of the back wall and ceiling - I'm well aware they're terribly dull. Just slapped them there to do a test compile.

This is just my opinion but Scientist Hunt seems to be the very meaning of pointless.

I used to fill maps with scientists and slaughter them all in my early mapping days. It was fun a couple of times but after that it's just the same thing over and over again.

Currently working on.

1. New map hl dm, No name yet.

2. Observatory, model in rhino and real model. "redoing a school project because my professor wouldn't let me do my idea" "said it wasn't architecture"...

3. Building a tree deck 25 feet up in a pine tree. Built ladder and designed everything, mapped in hammer. Waiting for battery saw and drill for christmas.

I actually originally built another style ladder in another pine tree but noticed the tree was dying and sort of girdled it ontop of that so had to find another huge pine and start over.

I'm going to have to rig up some sort of harnessing system in order to build it somewhat safely. And it is on gov. property. But I don't think anyone should find it, it's well hidden. It will also overlook a seasonal creek.
