No, shovelware games suck, and Popcap games aren't shovelware. They're fun and well made. There is a good market for casual games, and nothing wrong with enjoying something smaller from time-to-time.

Thanks guys. I think I just feel bitter about that G-Man thing, my big ending was ruined. :(

The map's for Left 4 Dead 1. There's no chance of me going to 2 anytime soon, I simply do not care for it. If the only reason for me to get it is to port my map over, it's going to have to be very cheap. ;)

Doesn't L4D2 support custom L4D maps anyway?

EDIT:

You know, I have to agree with you on that.

I enjoyed Up, like any Pixar movie, but it didn't stand out as much as say Wall-E or The Incredibles. The intro was great, and very sad for a Pixar film, but the rest is a little mediocre in places. The dogs definitely felt like a Dreamworks act to me.

Still, like any Pixar nut, I'm buying it on BluRay.

Last movie I saw was Wes Craven's New Nightmare (A Nightmare on Elm Street 7), god knows why. 1/10 for hilarious serious death scenes.

I don't have a clue how you'd go about organising and compiling it, since I don't really model, but you'd have to use more than one material for your prop. One VMT & VTF set for the wooden parts, and one more of each for the metal parts.

It looks like a lame rip-off of Hammer to me. Except for the WYSIWYG features, I see very few differences, though that it now appears to rely on prefab models more than ever.
I agree with the prefab thing, but it is an editor built totally around their own designs. That being said, realtime previews, more advanced brush building tools , smoother UI... seems like a much nicer, more refined version of Hammer... so I guess it is a bit of a rip-off.

in Toning down bloom Post #275843
Two good methods:

1) Use an env_tonemap_controller. Use a logic_auto to fire off some outputs, specifically "SetBloomScale blah". You can also use SetAutoExposureMin and SetAutoExposureMax to set the exposure range. Throw the entity in your map and use ent_fire to play with it and find some good results. This way is obviously global, so all light sources will be affected.

2) Use the BrightnessHDR or BrightnessScaleHDR keyvalues to tweak the HDR on the individual light source, so no other lights get scaled down. You should be able to use decimal figures to scale downwards.

This game is nothing like that, Soup Miner. It's telling a story that covers some very controversial and current issues, and it's doing it in a bold and in-your-face way instead of sugar-coating it. It's a very 'adult way' of telling a story because it's not skirting the issues, nor is it glorifying the violence.

I'm honestly surprised people get so worked up about this. If you want to talk about games that are incorrectly labelled mature, why not talk about Left 4 Dead 2, or Postal, or Solider of Fortune. The excessive violence only exists as a payoff in those games, and it's as immature as you can be about it.

"The world" might not be ready, but there are plenty of mature gamers that are. In America at least, the average age for a gamer is 35 years old, and the Australian statistics are similiar, 30 I believe. This is the demographic these games target.

It's just annoying that anyone in the right position to seriously damage this industry hears the words "terrorist" and "video game" and assumes developers are trying to put this in the hands of a 10 year old.

On the subject of the game itself, I have no doubt it will be made clear that there are consequences to what happens in the scene. If the character is undercover, it's supposed to be just as shocking to him as it is to the player.

If they were glorifying this, then I'd have a problem. There's no reward though, no achievements or positive feedback.
GTA and other such games that caught crap are on a totally different level. Killing civilians is never actually the center focus of anything. And when it happens (when the player makes it happen) there are no efforts to evoke any particular emotions. You know, you never get the feeling that you're killing living thing. It's just random fun, and it's meant to be.
That's worse. It's taking something as powerful and shocking as taking a life, and turning it into pleasure activity. You can even get money from the innocent people you kill as a feedback. There's no emotional consequence of doing so, and that's a problem.

in Civilian Massacre in CoD:MW2 Post #275306
The first game had an extended introduction scene showing the militia shooting up civilians. And this isn't that bad given we've been able to kill civilians in games for years and years now. And we've seen it in movies for even longer.

I get the outcry, but It's not without purpose. It's supposed to "establish the depth of evil and the cold bloodedness of a rogue Russian villain and his unit. By establishing that evil, it adds to the urgency of the player's mission to stop them" and it's a fair point. It's not your goal, and you're never once instructed to kill innocent people.

It's not as graphic as say, Left 4 Dead 2, or Soldier of Fortune. But it is shocking, and it's supposed to be. And it's totally bypassable if you don't think you can stomach it.

Yeah, I don't know about that Rabid.

The first game only worked (for the short while it did) because of it's simplicity. It just never received anything significantly new gameplay-wise to make it last longer.

Left 4 Dead 2 seems very much like the first game, with way too much of the same formula thrown in, instead of anything that's actually fresh. Killing zombies over and over again gets dull no matter how many ways they give you to do it. It needs new things to do primary to the zombie killing, rather than focusing on zombie killing with minor objective changes coming secondary.

Make something better you whiney bitches.
That is always a terrible argument. It basically denies everybody the freedom to critique a product, who hasn't done it themselves. That is, a much, much larger percentage than the developers. It alienates the target audience.
New generation graphics convokes new elements of gameplay.
What new elements of gameplay would that be? The shooting mechanics, the suit system, the vehicles... they all behave about as well as they did in the games that introduced them 10 years ago. They're dated and lacking refinement, to put it simply.
