Hey. I still have what I started on chapter 3. Even if this is dead I want to finish it for fun.

I think I'm just going to make these tunnels manmade rather than carved out of rock. I'll have rocky sections, but I can't get a solid rock tunnel created that curves how I want it to.

I'd post a screenshot but I've deleted all my failed attemps in utter frustation. I'm going to make another go at it, I'll be sure to keep this one.

Very interesting map, Muzzle. I'm assuming you just made cubes and triangles and just went nuts with the vertex manipulation? The part I'm having most trouble with is the views that aren't aligned directly with the XYZ coordinates.

I'm getting frustrated. I can't come up with a good technique for making realist rock walls that curve. I don't want a map that's all straight, that's not how they build tunnels, is it?

If anyone has any good tips for rocky tunnels, please divulge.

Update:

Working on even more rocked tunnels for the truck to ride through on its way to the underground research facility. Not easy going, rock is a pain in the butt to keep it looking realistic, yet not use too many polys.

Doesn't look like I'm going to be done by the due date, sorry guys. I'm a slow mapper, but I like things to look good and that takes time.

Hey, has the website changed? The one I have bookmarked doesn't look like it has changed much at all.

Where can I get some compiled versions of what you all have been working on? I'm looking for a little extra inspiration and I'm curious if I should look for some structural parallels or some general "style" I could click into.

Right now I'm busy carving tunnels into rock (figuratively) as this is an underground military base. Security is a bit tight, and I want to make the trip in a good ride.

Oh man, this is looking so good! Must...find...spare time. I'm working guys! Will take me awhile, but I fired up the map and started making a few changes! Things will come from me, oh will they be coming...just you wait.

I never have enough f*cking time to do everything I want to guys! AAAH! Sorry for disappearing, I've been extremely busy with school full time, and work almost full time. Once the fat loan checks come in I'll be quitting my job (or working a LOT less) and freakin' hopefully put some more time into this.

I can see I'm way behind you guys, by the end of this month I'll try to get a solid map going - feel free to boot me if I'm just laggin' you all down.

Just poking my head in. Been really busy trying to find a job to make money, but other than that my progress is slow but surely.

I'm learning a whole buttload as I go, my techniques need refining as some very simple things I have to redo 3 different ways until I'm happy with it!

Hey, Unbreakable, neat stuff. If only it was a bit smoother...we should be able to find some kind of use for those.

I have Photoshop 7, if anyone has a place I can host it, I'll give it to y'all. Not exactly a "legal" version, crack included.

Thanks Seventh. Oh, and he doesn't have a head because this is going to be a Mortal Kombat style game, and we are attaching 2D images of our friends to his neck (for that uber cheesy look) for fighting.

End of May, check. I can do that. But don't try to push it up sooner please, I'm really fucking busy right now. I am working on my final project for programming, we are making a Mortal Kombat-esque fighting game, and I'm in the middle of making a model for him. I'll be sure to post a few pics of him when he's done for you all to see, I'm very proud of the current progress.

Not to mention Physics and Calculus tests happening sparatically all over. I am done with school May 19, and will have a lot more time to map starting then.

Don't worry Killer, it's a lot to learn. At least you're mapping, just keep doing it, the experience will come!

I dusted off my version yesterday and added a few sexy things, like lights and sprites and some supports to make the place look a little more interesting.

2 questions:

How do I post screenshots in these forums like Unbreakable?

And where is a good place to get photorealistic textures, or at least ones that look as sexy as yours do, MuzzleFlash? I'm stuck with the original Half-Life ones, and they aren't as nice.

Ok, ok. I'll chill on the music! What makes you think it's dying?

I personally have not been able to find a lot of time to map, but once this summer starts, I'll be mapping full swing. I have plans for a HL2 mod as well, but that's after this one.

BTW, who is this Freshed guy? He just kind of jumped in, telling us what kind of music is good.

Slipknot = must have, in my map. Just one or two spots, in the frantic firefights. Sorry, but it's going to happen. And I'll pick their better songs, not the screaming crazy ones that involve having sex with gouges and cuts.

Oh and Christian bands = ?!

I say we tell Unbreakable where to start and where to finish, and let his own creative juices take us where he feels we should go.

I personally am going to have music in mine - it just adds so much to the atmosphere we are trying to create in our levels.

lol, Hunter. All your descriptions of each level always seem to include the word "maze". That's not good. Make it realistic! Make it flow! Each brush has purpose! We want our players to have FUN, not get lost.

Welcome aboard Unbreakable!

Hell yeah I've played HL2. Bought it last week, when my new ridiculously fast computer showed up. Beat it, and am now playing HL:Deathmatch every now and then. Game runs great at almost max settings, mwahahahaha.

So Hunter, what's the deal with everyone else? Are the 3 of us (you, me, Muzzle) going to have to do the other chapters?

All I know is that I'm still learning, whether I learn from my maps, or looking at others, whatever. The key is I'm learning no matter what I do, and focusing my skills.

Hunter: give me a bit on my comments about your map - I just got my shiny new computer (in many, many pieces) today and I need to put it together and play HL2 at max settings on it!

Politics:
1. (used with a sing. verb)
1. The art or science of government or governing, especially the governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs.
2. Political science.
2. (used with a sing. or pl. verb)
1. The activities or affairs engaged in by a government, politician, or political party: ?All politics is local? (Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr.). ?Politics have appealed to me since I was at Oxford because they are exciting morning, noon, and night? (Jeffrey Archer).
2. The methods or tactics involved in managing a state or government: The politics of the former regime were rejected by the new government leadership. If the politics of the conservative government now borders on the repressive, what can be expected when the economy falters?
3. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) Political life: studied law with a view to going into politics; felt that politics was a worthwhile career.
4. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) Intrigue or maneuvering within a political unit or group in order to gain control or power: Partisan politics is often an obstruction to good government. Office politics are often debilitating and counterproductive.
5. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) Political attitudes and positions: His politics on that issue is his own business. Your politics are clearly more liberal than mine.
6. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) The often internally conflicting interrelationships among people in a society.
Usage Note: Politics, although plural in form, takes a singular verb when used to refer to the art or science of governing or to political science: Politics has been a concern of philosophers since Plato. But in its other senses politics can take either a singular or plural verb. Many other nouns that end in -ics behave similarly, and the user is advised to consult specific entries for precise information.
What about politics?
