Iwas bored so i wipped up this camera in a few mintes, its 146 faces and you can put it in your map, wiht animations.
I only need to texture it.

It is easy. Just practice alot and dont expect to make a hl2 zombie as your first model. Though i need to practice on organic modeling.

It's just as easy as mapping really, chow, you just have to ignore most of the options in most modelling programs, wheras all of Hammer's stuff's HL-oriented.

Is it similar to Hammer?

I mean I had a quick go without the guids and failed miserably :(

Is it worth it for source? to make a model? and custom textures... can they be made using wally?

Yes, it's worth learning static prop modelling for Source because the engine really relies on props for detailed maps.

The thing is, skinning can be very dodgy, you can make a metal texture and place it anywhere, now it will end up either diagonal, downwards etc depending on how you modeled it.

Feel the power of uvmapping(bows to lithunwrap)

wiht uvmapping you flatten your model by un-packing it as you would do wiht a cardboard box. then you save the model, i usualy save it is a ms3d file. If you do that he saves the coordinates of all the vertexes and faces on the 512x512 workspace. then you save it as a bmp texture and it will be applied to a material on milkshape.
Then you apply a material to the groups whom are uvmapped on the texture. and there you got your model ready for texturing.

Yep, it colours the groups, then its easier for the skinner to recognize where what part belongs, but you can turn that off offcourse.

What's really lacking in HL2 modeling are small bushes and things like palm trees.

But I imagine that's diffiicult to model. I love the HL2 tree models, though. They did a really good job at those.

NOt really, just normal planes wiht a aplha texture on them. its mostly the texturing that is the problem.

Sorry to seem negative Pepper but your camera looks slightly bulky (fat)

But it may be like that where you live, but where I live they are slightly thinner.

I cant find any sources for hard-coding the sprites into a model.

On the other hand, i created a animation that makes you..... dizzy....yeah, thats the right word, its going so frickin fast that it makes me crazy.

Alright problem fixed, i set the fps 60, just as much as my keyframes, this means that the model was playing the animation in one second instead in one minute, so i set the fps to 1 so the model now completes the scanning sequence wihtin one minute.
