:zonked: I design a map, save under the name of something like 'level1' in my valve map folder. Slap that F9 key and Enter. Half-Life starts up,console and my map does't load "map change failed could not find 'level1' on server". . . . Valve is trying to end my mapping hobbie. .

Can somebody plz help this desperate Outlaw?

Save it into the Hammer folder instead. This is what u do. In the configuration options, where it says "Place compiled maps in this directory..." put in the valve/maps folder.
For example
DRIVE NAME/SIERRA/Half-Life/valve/maps
Then where its says "RMF directory" put it in the maps folder in the Hammer folder
For example
DRIVE NAME/Hammer/maps
Now save that map with the new directories. Run it and see what happens! If it doesn't work, well, um, ur map is screwed! :P

Err wait nope, works with every other map than the one I want it to work on! Maybe because their could be a error in the map?

OK first try copying everything in that map to a fresh new file. Compile and see if it works

a lot of things can cause this 'not found on server' problem, it may be that hammer is compiling for a mod but trys to run your map in a different mod, check your settings under 'options' and then check your compile options before you press 'go'

Also if you have an error, that the map can't run with, it wont compile the map, and it will say that it isn't on the server

Everyone is on the right track....Great stuff.
CSG, BSP, VIS, RAD... that is the compile sequence.
If the .csg compile has a problem, it won't step to the next phase of the compile which is BSP. The .bsp file won't be created, and that is what Half-Life needs to run.
Anthony answered correctly, and now you have managed to get the .bsp placed in the right directory, Post the compile log, so we can see what's going on.

Don't forget to wear tin foil on your head at night, that way Valve can't steal your thoughts...

I had the same problem when I started mapping... Then I stopped for a year.

I already started a new master plan. Haveing read the little item on leaks in the h/w craft help index I have adjusted to what can cause my map not to compile, and with the aid of all you. I don't think it was a leak but something else. Oh well not it won't happen agin :)

( Pulls the tin foil out ) Muhahaha
