That background is actually pretty nice, if 56k-murderous. Make sure you get a shot at the highest resolution possible, for the people who have high desktop resolutions, though. Some of the text's a little difficult to read, too.

It looks sorta nice, but it lacks structure and layout.

I took the shot myself and 1280x800 was the largest i could get. i set the background to repeat itself for big screens...didnt it do that?
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-15 18:25:15 UTC Post #104244
dont make it repeat, just center it and use black as the background color.

First of all, it's pretty boring. A BG and some text?
Second, times new roman sucks. At least make it arial :<
Third, the colours? what the hell is that, turquoise/red/light green? Omg!

And, as usual, no content, but it's ok in this case since you're obviously not done.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-15 18:41:01 UTC Post #104250
I just started so im gonna change all that soon. The colors were kinda hard to see against the background so i just set it to #00FFFF to make it easier to see. maybe ill just put in a text background color.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-15 18:46:14 UTC Post #104252
I'd say divide text sections into their own divs with their own backgrounds.

Umm not much to it but its a good start. How good is L2P anyways? What do they offer?

You should really crank up the AA and AF to full for that shot.

Ahh poor 56k people im 2mb sec and that bg took about 1 second :S i would stick your text and information in a div and make it see thru so ya can still see the background behind, and omg please dont use the default css stylesheets from dreamweaver, nasty nasty nasty colours, but otherwise its good ;)
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-16 07:46:49 UTC Post #104294
Two millibits, eh? Hardly speedy :P.

I think the background works pretty nicely. I'd say the text'd be best right-aligned, but that's on 1024x768, at 800x600 (slightly more common still), it might look better different.

Small 'm' means a millionth. Very very big difference from M.

I get 240KB/s easily on my ADSL :P.

Incidentally, 'b' means bits. 'B' is bytes.

That concludes today's lesson.

They are awsome. The lowest plan is 250MB disk space and 5GB bandwidth and the highest one is 5GB space and 50GB bandwidth. And its free. Just have to post in their forums.

For the screenshot, it looked alot better in the game but the program i used the shot doesnt look as good.
and omg please dont use the default css stylesheets from dreamweaver
I made my own stylesheets :P

And i got 256K DSL and the page loads pretty quick.

BTW i just added a links page.

I made my own stylesheets
Umm, there is a difference between making your own style sheets and embedding a style sheet.
Anyway, it is a nice clean page with hideous color options.
Good start...
Oh, and where are you picking up the HTML from, are there still people coding in 4 transitional?
Ditch 4 and shoot for XHTML, then you shouldn't have browser compatibility issues.

XHTML stands for Extensible HyperText Markup Language
XHTML is aimed to replace HTML
XHTML is almost identical to HTML 4.01
XHTML is a stricter and cleaner version of HTML
XHTML is HTML defined as an XML application

XHTML is nice. It's basicly HTML with some XML features and very strict syntax. For example all tags must be lowercase and all tags without a closing tag (such as img) must end with a forward slash followed by a closing arrow, like this: <tag optiion="value" />.
m0p m0pIllogical.

IEMC, hes got it in there. If you got Firefox, right click and go to view page source and it will show you the HTML code he used:
<style type="text/css">body {background-image:
url(http://www.half-lifelss.l2p.net/hl2sunset.JPG);
background-repeat: repeat-xy}
h1 {font-size: 200%}
h1 {color: #ff0000}
h2 {font-size: 8pt}
h2 {color: #ffffff}
p {font-size: 12pt}
p {color: #ffffff}</style>
See? Dont just make assumptions. Check the source before you jump to conclusions.

But does Opera let you view the page source and info? I can easily see the HTML code that went into TWHL (4.0 lol) and I could even use that to make a copy of this site :badass:

Yeah... viewing the source isn't exactly an advanced feature. Plus, no, you can't copy the site because you don't have any of the backend code whatsoever.

Nope, that's what I know. Fortunately, FF users can never seem to give me a reason why FF is supposedly better. This ended in a truce between the two groups of users: we crusade against the fact that IE sucks completly.

Posted 18 years ago2005-04-21 03:27:55 UTC Post #105085
Yes, IE sucks, get FF. Now, for the Maps page:

First of all: Deep blue on black background? I had to strain me eyes just to read the title text.
Second, it's all paragraphed to the left - get it to the center.

On the maps, itself, page (cs 1.6 maps etc), there're html-resized screenshots!
That's like, omg the waste! Make smaller thumbnails of the same images instead.
Also, the links look horrible. The default Blue -> Purple when clicked is awful, as well as that underline. Get rid of it.
