I 50% understand but there is one thing thats on my mind! Can I make the layour bigger e.g. select all and make it bigger, not adding anything, just resizing it to fit my buildings....
Otherwise it is way too small to fit my buildings in and at the moment the size is uber small...I could use 4 of those layouts to make a full map but my question is can I resize it?...

@H: You can't rescale the layout.

But it's so small, you can barely fit anything in it :o
I would imagine the max players would be 5 or something cause it's so small.

Well, just make a nice looking, fun and small map then! :)

It's not too small, you just have to be creative with the standards.

Habboi, no making it bigger. That'd be unfair. :)

The layout is fairly is small, but it's not REALLY small. It's probably too big for 1 on 1, with 3 players it's nice, but I can also see it working with 10-12 players and possibly more. :)

Just try and maximise the space available to you in large areas (don't fill it with huge amounts of props, etc.)

If you really dont want it small use the z axis a lot, it makes it a lot more intresting and fun to play.

Ok, I'm gonna clarify something here. The 'corridor' areas can be widened, but NOT MUCH. Just so they can line up with the other walls.

This is because the original layout was more 'indoorish', but with the new widenings, it's much more outdoor friendly.

Take a look at the image below - the red areas are what can be widened and how far the can be widened to. These are the only accessible areas which you can add to the layout.

Any questions about it, feel free to ask.

Thank you. :)

YOu included a extremely annoying curve in the layout, can i delete that and make it 90 degree? Or something else that fits?

No dont let him thats just like totally unfair. Work it into da map.

Posted 18 years ago2005-07-09 16:16:21 UTC Post #119961
Nop, you cant add any extra rooms.
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-09 16:58:44 UTC Post #119982
You can't add any accessible rooms that are extra. You can add inaccessable ones though.

Ok so the plan...I could make rooms on top of the plan that are the same shape e.g. uhh one bit is square so I place some walls around it, add some detail and voila I have a room.

First of all, let me start off by telling everyone to stop answering questions on assumptions. Leave it for me to answer.
YOu included a extremely annoying curve in the layout, can i delete that and make it 90 degree? Or something else that fits?
Yes, you can change that. It is explained in the rules: 'You can change the shape of the path. This means that instead of square corners, you can round them and so on. A good example of this shown below. Both lead to the same place, hence they do not change the layout, but make the map more interesting and detailed.'
No dont let him thats just like totally unfair. Work it into da map.
Shut the hell up and don't tell me what to do. Thank you.
srry if this had already been answerd but can you add rooms INSIDE the floor plan/box..or am i out of line?!?!
As explained in the rules: 'You can add more accessible areas, just as long as they stay inside the original floor plan (you can't extend it, but you can build upon it).' Go to the rules and find it, and take a look at the pictures to help understand it.
yeh I think you can, I have.
Nop, you cant add any extra rooms.
Refer to top of this post.
cant u have dividers inside the actual rooms layed out?
I assume you are asking whether you can add walls inside areas to split them into two rooms. Yes, you can.

This compo can be for HL1, and 2!?

i really think there should be a HL1 compo for this, just hosted on Trapt's temp site. that way the people who think this is a really good Idea for a compo(like me),but can't map for Half-life 2(again like me), can enter.

and just have it end the same day the HL2 one does. seeing as the people on this site who still map for Half-life probably know what there doing by now

do you mind if I rotate the map around the Z axis? The layout remains the same, but I need to change te orientation to adjust the sun and light enviroment to the existing sky presets.
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-13 02:05:25 UTC Post #120505
Rotating it around the Z axis is fine, as it keeps the same layout and will not be noticed in game.

So, how is everyone doing with this compo?
the bad news is that I can't participate in the HL1 compo (since I chose the theme) so I can use all my mapping skills with this one :cyclops:

I'm going to include a new gameplay effect that will make the map much more interesting. I hope it works! ;)

Nice terrain. Somehow my HL2 maps always tend to have an urban style. I think I prefered making sci-fi, fantasy and ancient type maps for HLDM

The roof texture in shot 3 doesnt fit.

Yeah, it looks ok,but i cant work with props, still got to get used to that.

nice screenshots!
I'm also using the orange texture for one of my buildings ;)

Thanks Kasberg
@ZombieLoffe and Seventh: The first screenie was mainly meant just to show off the map's dark side, It's not all dark.
@pepper: For the roof, I thought that looked like what a hospital roof might look like, but it probably could do with changing
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-26 01:54:14 UTC Post #123590
That monitor would cast a light glow over a large part of the room, though; it looks strange. Turn it off or make it lighting.
