I want to make a wall that:
  • The player can see through
  • The player cannot go through
  • When hit with a crowbar, does not make a noise
  • When shot, does not leave floating bullet hole
I know I did this before, but honestly I forgot.

Clip bruses make noise when you whack them, come to think of it, nothing doesn't. You're going to have to deal with the crowbar noise.

No wait, try a 1-unit-thick func_push with te speed set to 320, or whatever the default sv_maxspeed is.

Every time I've taken a whack at a clip brush its ended up with a smash.

When you make an invisable brush(rendermode: texture/additive fenderamount:0) I think any deceals that you will place on it will be also invisable...but give it a try! :glad:

Sounds like you are trying to make a Combine force feild Bratty.

no, I just don't want the player to walk right off the cliff :glad:

plus, there are places I don't want the player to go.

I think I found an alternate solution...

A series of these invisible brushes, placed like a jail's bars, 1 by 1, in a row just small enough apart so the player cannot get through. I'll see how this does, although it might kill my r_speeds...

That did not work...

When the crowbar is hit against the clip brush, it makes a noise like you hit metal.

Any other suggestions to get rid of this?

why not make one invinseble brush close to the ground, and one flying over the ground, and there is to little space for the player to go through.
And to skip the jump + duck technique you could maby put one in the middle.

At least it will lower the chance of hit one of the brushes with a shot/crowbar...

okay... I'll ignore the sound.

My music will be too loud to hear it, muhaha.

Did you try to use 2 clip brushes - one 20 units high standing on the floor(to prevent player just to walk over it) and another is hanging from the ceiling 90 units from the floor to prevent the player jump on the first clip brush. In the middle, there will be still nothing, so you can shoot through, and there is no sound or decals.

AG,
I tried a serious of clip brush setups. First of all, a clip brush can be shot through anyway... its the fact that when hit with a crowbar it makes a metal sound. None of the clip brush setups had any great effects, since you could easily turn and hit downward. It would just end up with me using up extra time.
In order to get rid of the HEV suit sound, I have turned up the volume and content of my music so it is in the backround, giving it a pretty cool effect.

in my origional post:
- When shot, does not leave floating bullet hole
What else could that mean?

You still havent tried this or you havent said anything about trying it.

A clip brush is a regular brush with the clip texture on it! :) And it is invisable and blocks the player and monsters! ;)

Rimrook, go try it. A crowbar does hit the clip brush.

I solved the problem though! I gave the hero a crowbar AFTER he passed the clip brush area!

wooties to me for a simple solution!
