try choosing run in the start menu and typing
[hl.exe -particles 99999]
and maybe it might work. or not... try it.

I think there is an example map in the vault on those things! I remember that I downloaded it for it created good lookin smoke and fire and I didn't know whats spirit and I got confused between it and the sprites!
