Is it possible to make a model with only an idle animation move, or fly? What if there is no 'idle' animation? Just a 'spin' animation or something?

Once you decomile it and add animations to the model itself, then sure, you can make it do anything you want.

As for idle animations, read idle as default in this case. The 'idle' animation of a model doesn't necessarily have to be static.

Heres an example, Opposing Force, they had that Alien flyover scene, using models, but it only had a idle animation..

It either was brush-based, a func_train or such, or it was an animated model, or OpFor has code that allows models to move a la func_trains.

I think it's the last one, since at some points you saw sprites flying through a level as well.

Yeah, OpFor has special code.

This is made out of solid brushes tied into a func_tracktrain even in opposing force! I can post an example map if you want! And I think even in opposing force you can't tie a model to an entity! :( but you can tie sprites to a train_sprite. The vlatitude has a nice fgd file for opposing force! :) Unfortanetly it was desined for worldcraft 3x so it can't view entities!
