This is a Map i Have made a layout and am currently designing. it is called de_desolate it takes place in a city, where terrorists plan on bombing the drawbridge, the only way out of the city. the counter terrorists' job is to stop the terrorists from completing their objective. the terrorists have crashed their equiptment truck near the entance to the city at a road block. they are fully supplied with body armor, grenades, AK47s and MAC10s.

The Counter Terrorists are at the police station equipping themselves when the crash occurs, and are ready to spring into action. they are equipped with M4A1a, Steyr AUGs, TMPs, and an assortment of grenades. various highlights of the map are: the functioning drawbridge (which must be activated to cross) the gunshop where any item can be purchased, the bar (with a shotgun stashed under the cash register) a boat in the water, roof access to almost all roofs.

Suggestions and criticism are greatly appreciated. any feedback is useful feedback.

Hm, well, the layout seems nice, and accessible rooves would make for some nice sniping. Might be a bit complex for CS 1.6, though, or are you mapping this for Source?

Also, armoury stuff, weapon stashes, generally don't work too brilliantly in serious maps.

the boat will be drivable so i guess this is source

No, you can make vehicles for CS 1.6.

They're extreme buggy, though.

Urghhh Source, please do it for old CS 1.6. CS:S Source makes me shudder ni disgust.
m0p m0pIllogical.

you can't make boats drivable in cs 1.6.
Edit
idea.
you can put clip brush deep underwater and make boat a normal car but very high so the visable part of it it on water. But still it won't look realistic

i was planning on developing this for 1.6, cuz im a cheapo, and i dont feel like buying source :) i also plan on not making too many weapons at the tuck and the police station, to force players to go to the weapon shop, and also force players to use more than one route. i am also debating whether or not to use the boat. ive never made a vehicle in a map, so im just looking for excuses to : also the boat would serve basicaly no purpose. and btw thanks for the quick resonses to this post

Forcing players to go to a weapon shop might not be a good idea. The first few seconds of a match are meant for equipping. It's no fun to be shot while you're buying your weapons, you know.

The boat would indeed not make sense with that layout, so skip the controllable part of it. It's not worth the time, and I doubt if any player will use it because of the buggyness of vehicles in CS.

Allowing access to the roofs is probably a bad thing too. Limit the map to a certain set of routes, don't make it an open field where enemies can come from anywhere. That's not really the CS gameplay most people like.

Apart from that, the layout and the idea looks good. Adding another bombspot would be good though, otherwise the map gets repetetive much faster.
Good luck with it!

i was strongly considering another bombspot, like perhaps the power supply for the city, i want to stick with the theme of immobilizing the city. also on the topic of the rooftops. only select rooftops would be accessable, only strategically placed ones near the bombsite. also i wanted the gunshop to be a vulnerability, cuz it would cut down on EVERYone buying an awp and camping the rooftops (hence its location reletive to the bombsite). but maybe i will add more guns at the spawns, perhaps more TMPs and MAC10s. i dont want every average joe walkin around with an AK or an AUG. :P

I like the idea,, specually the weapon shop thingy,, I've always wanted to do that my self, but, I can't map for CS 1.6, it won't compile my maps in to BSP, for some reason.. :(
This map looks really fun, but I think the bomb zone is too close to CT spawn, they might just sit in the windows and camp.. =/
Maby, the bomb zone could be in the bar? :D
Just a thought.

I look forward to play this map! :)

How about, just have a buy zone in the truck instead of weapons.

Same with the police station.

i wanted to limit the number of good weapons available for each team. for instance: 4 AKs and 12 MAC10s (just in case it is run a huge server) and for CTs 2 AUGs, 3 M4A1s, and 11 TMPs, also, i wanted to do something more original, and beleivable than the standard CS buyzone, which in my opinion is not realistic. if Terrorists were organizing an assault on a city, they would come prepared with weapons.

But, there is a way to restrict weapons, isnt there?

plus a buyzone is setup around every playerstart, so unless you disable buying completely, people can still buy stuff at the spawns
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-22 20:51:22 UTC Post #129144
no... if you place a buyzone anywhere on map, it disables the defaults at spawn.
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-23 02:10:06 UTC Post #129170
Why wouldnt they be allowed to buy?

Ive worked on the map a little bit, the bar is nearly finished, and ive decided to make the outside lighting an almost dusk setting. also i have put a fire escape in, and changed one of the roadways into an alley instead with some dumpsters and such. does anyone know where i can get a police car texture, and perhaps a prefab? i would like to put a few outside the police station. also a police station sign texture. i am not to fond of spending too much time on making custom textures, but if anyone would like to make them, i would definately credit them.

Why not restrict the wepons they aint allowed to use?
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-26 13:01:31 UTC Post #129970
the point wasnt to restrict weapons, but to only make certain weapons available at spawn, and if you want any different weapons, you have to go to the gunshop.
