I was working on a map for HL2 DM, and after hours of work...thought I saved it properly...maybe I didn't...because, I load the .vmf file which I had saved to all along, and it only loads my map in the early stages.

When I go in and create a HL2 DM server for gameplay, and load the map by the same name...it's in .bsp form, and has all the work I did in the level...

How can I retrieve the map as it appears in the .bsp to further work on it...??

I'm fairly new to this whole process, and read about doing cubemaps...can someone enlighten me? Or give me a link to any info...

My map works fine so far, but doesn't seem to have the same sharp images as in the HL2 game...I have the basics down, but need a good tutorial that explains all the finer detail...

Thanks in advance...

Hm an odd sticky mess your in...
Ok so you have searched your computer for all vmf files with that name?
Try it if not and check all VMFS on your computer.

Ok if that fails just use vmex decompile system - google as it's a naughty program :glad:

hl2world.com's Wiki is very informative on Source subjects. An excellent reference.

Ouch...I just read up on the Vmex program, and it seems to get nasty responses on the sites I searched...

Apparently, people use this program to steal other peoples maps...etc...

Maybe I'll just start from the earlier saved map, and just rebuild it again, and continue looking for the .vmf if I can find it...hehehe

Maybe you still have the .vmx? It's a backup of the .vmf, automatically created.

And as for Vmex... since it's your own map, how could you possibly steal it? ;) Go ahead and use it if you've lost your maps source.

Thanks...It's okay, I just loaded the older version of the map, repaired it and built it back up to where it was when I lost it... :)

A lesson learned...hehehe
