Started working on a new map a couple of days ago, thought i'd share it with you guys.

Its set in a underground cave system exposed by artilery fire, when the commen wealth and the central powers moved into the caves they quikly engaged in combat and created a stalemate situation, those whom can hold the caves will hold the victory.

Again a map for The Trenches. Dont mind the rock textures, it will need to be replaced if i can get myself a couple of lose hours to draw something new.

It's a bit square... maybe some detailing on the side walls?

Thanks for the comments.

@7th, im afraid i cant change it much more, il have to watch the r_speeds since its a multiplayer map. And the tunnels are already 6 sided to put it into modeling terms.

This would look lovely in Source.

I believe Captain P is working on a 'similair' map in source.

Yeah, I am. Displacement maps are much easier to work with... :)

Looks good, Pepper, especially for a goldsource map. I like that hut especially. Those first screenshots looked less good, especially that part with the light-beam: the transition from dark to light on the ground was too harsh and edgy.
Also, what are the light sources? Oil lamps or such?
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 11:12:52 UTC Post #143165
Lightsources are holes in the roof, oil-lamps(got a nice model) and offcourse your usualy fire.

What do you mean with goldsource? Neve heard of it.

Created the Commen Wealth(British/Americans/Canadians etc) spawn area and the cave entrance as seen behind the bushes.

Hope you like it!

Oh, the R_speeds are very reasonable being under the 1000, wich might be a bit high for some people but remember, its a complicated map.

Too dark. Even with my monitor cranked up to "gaming" settings and with a nudge up on the gamma, I still could barely see anything.

Pushing the gamma up stupidly high, it looks very nice. DoD quality, easily... although the edge seems a bit sharp on the left of the building.

Strange, because i can see everything perfectly fine. Il crank it up a bit of more people experience this.

The last screenshot is nice, and I think It would benefit from having the light_enviroment coming from another angle. To do this, you either have to rotate the whole map or adjust the sky tga files so the sun is in the right place (first option is easier).
A comment on the cave map: slanted roofs are slanted because of rain. It doesnt rain a lot inside a cave, so having that kind of roof there is a bit ridiculous (although nice looking)
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-17 10:21:10 UTC Post #152801
Yeah i know, but imagine all of the falling dirt collapsing a flat roof :)

Somehow the light enviroment doesnt like to throw nice shadows around, i havent figure out why so far...

Exelent pics i think it will be a extremly good map!

Exelent work pepper. Nice terrain too! :o I only advise you to use the lightbeam texture for the light beams.

I dont know what your talking about elon, i actualy used it.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-17 11:08:24 UTC Post #152811
Thats a fade texture! Try searching for beam in halflife.wad

Aha, your right, il look into it.

The outside screenie looks really good. Nice Sky!

On one of the previous screens, am I correct you have a buiding with a pitched roof in an undergound cave?

If so, why do you have a building with a pitched roof in an underground cave :P

@Elon: Yeah the that fade texture works well, and there are loads of examples about it. Incidentally, did you used "fade" for your bullet hole light rays, in the Casa Del Administrator compo?
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-19 18:50:57 UTC Post #153294
Yeah, i liked the sky myself to, you can also find it on tt_hill.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-19 21:46:06 UTC Post #153322
I can't see a thing. The sky is really bright, and the map looks almost pitch black. Find a colour from the sky, and put it in your light_env with a decent brightness, for both realism purposes and so the player can see where the fuck they're going.

I dont know wich kind of monitors you peeps have but i can see everything just fine...
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 12:15:46 UTC Post #153408
Yes rowleybob I did. But the sunbeam texture is much better for sunbeams.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 21:47:08 UTC Post #153619
Considering numerous people have stated that they can't see a thing, I do believe that it'd be your monitor settings which are fucked.

Doubt there fucked, still, il check the lightning again.

Ok, i just saw it was pitch black on my second monitor, wich has a little lower gamma then standard monitors, but il change the lightning to something respecteble.
