Perhaps your map is full? Is this that apartment map you worked on?

I figured it out. One of my textures turned out to have a "!" in front of it's name, causing every block using it to become a solid block of water - that's not good. I renamed it and fixed it.
thats from someone else who had this problem
A tough one to figure out, vague error that usually shows up when you start the game or during compile, or even when WC/Hammer starts up - you have gone over the memory limit somewhere for some reason. It can be too little RAM (128M is about minimum), a leaf saw into leaf error, too long pathnames, too many textures, too big a level, too big or too many model/sprites, too big a wav sound file - or it could be that old "too many wads" mistake, a huge "noob" brush around the map to prevent leaks, too many SKY faces on hidden brush faces in the level - or even something else. Example: In early versions of NS, the 3D area info location entities were a major cause.
If it happens during compile, do not use WC/Hammer to "run" the map, but use a front end or batch file to compile with. You could also get more RAM.
(The following may still be handy, however be aware that Software mode allocates memory dynamicly, so it may automaticly seem to "fix" any error. Therefore the following info MAY lead you into a dead end:
Some brush-based entities have rendering properties that, when they interact in OpenGL/D3D video cards, they crash. Switch Half-Life to Software mode first, then load the map. If it loads you now know it is something that is handle different in software, then for Opengl/d3d check water, glows, additive, sprites, transparencies (illusionaries, windows, ect.), env_beams and so on.)

If it happens in opening a level in WC, it may be you have an animating model showing in one view. You must switch to single view instead of multiple, and try different ones until you get past it.

Habboi, no, it's just the very beginning of a level, the inside of an elevator, so you could imagine how small it is.

Hunter, thats not it either, checked all the textures, but non start with '!'

Tested in Software, and Direct3D,

Direct3D gives me the error message.
Software, just crashes.

Backgroud of the error:

haha, thanks.. lol, actually, its for a new map I'm working on, I made a sweet ass lighthouse and such, blah blah, and then I got an elevator where the changelevel takes place.

So now your in the next level, starting in the elevator.

The elevators complete, then I tried adding a rotating emergency light in it consisting of 3 func_rotating.
Tried to compile, and I got the error.
So I deleted it, but I still get the error, and now I can't fix it.

My theory:
You got one of these "empty brushes"/null brushes that you can't see in hammer.
It's probebly an entity, with bad settings?
And, it is so small, and it has a texture on it using fit mode, but scince there is no brush, you get an error. :D

I tried to google parts of your error, and the whole error, and no one got a clear answere for what it is.
Maby you should mail Valve or something? :

Maybe it was too hard for vis/rad to render. :
Posted 19 years ago2005-10-24 21:33:19 UTC Post #143462
its probably due to the texture...

Did you "smoosh" the texture in too much?
Posted 19 years ago2005-10-25 03:52:16 UTC Post #143482
You didn't make it a cylinder by accident, and a very very narrow one, with the outside being the buttons?

I think he would have noticed that, cause when he looked at it in VM there would be a whole bunch of odd verticies...

I think that hints at a possible problem...
