EXPERIMENT!!! If you don't have any ideas, don't worry about them. Try reading some more advanced tuts to get the ideas going! The best way to learn is to experiment for yourself, so just muck about with hammer for a while... discover some of the more advanced entities and how to use them! :D How to use func_trains, ambient_generics, func_ladders, trigger_once/multiples, monstermakers, env_beams... most are actually quite simple to use, you just have to "discover" them! :D

Go through every tutorial. We have written those for you new guys. Start from the beginning and don't get over-confident. :)

Search around and download some single player mods. This will help you get an idea on innovative ideas (ok that doesn't sound right, I'll rephase). Playing through some mods which got high ratingsor good reviews will help inspire you. So look around and have fun!

I've found that if you don't even have any inspiration, you probably shouldn't be mapping or doing any form of art ;)

That's not true, jobabob. I've felt this before, although I rarely feel it nowadays. Just play a few games, get some inspiration, get inspiration off other people (Without stealing ideas), and then bring bits of it together. It probably won't all come in one map though.

Well its true to an extent

if you do it with no heart.. your work will be crap

I have never run out of ideas. Watch TV shows, go and see films, play games, use situations from real life. Just use your head and you will have lots of ideas!

Map your school/college/workplace. Then go postal. ;-) If you remember your dreams, they can be a good source of mapping ideas.
