Do a wing version and do a without-wing version, and either decide for yourself which one looks best, or show us if you want us to decide.

Well, actually, the front is gonna fall off, and the rest is gonna stay on. This is how some of the characters in the control room survive "since somehow it stays in 1 piece when it hits the ground".

When the pillar comes up, Im going to have Gordon, being led by Barney, on the way to see the other characters in the observation room... as they want him to see the large land mass..

as they are on their way... and your boring 1 sided conversation with barney is coming to an end... The ship says...
"Incoming Xen Forces... Impact in approximatly.." Smash! The thing pops up right in front of you. A door shuts in front of you, so you are safe (On the part that is suspended in the air), and then the level changes to a movie of the thing smashing the ship, and various parts falling off...

I know what you're thinking... But don't worry, I can pull it off..

Small wings with 360 engines, perhaps, but not big plane like wings, if this thing relied on wings to fly firstly the wings would have to be titanic and secondly it would have to move bloody fast, contstantly.

very small wing like constructs with rotary engines on them might be good. Unless your are determined to put wings on it, I would say No, they will make it look unrealistic and silly. Small areofoils is a different matter but then, if its not having wings it doesnt really need them. So no, no wings.

Well considreing this is HL1 I'm not so sure you should have it break up...
Perhaps just have it float but with broken bits that spin slowly with a fun_rotate.

shoot, the fricken star wars ships had wings...

Ill make my own type of propulsion, not nessesarily wings, but.. kinda like them..

I just can't find any origional textures that fit...

Am I the only one who thinks those textures suit it? Perhaps a bit more black is needed but it looks good. Just needs flame sprites or something in the engines and poof your done.

The problem is that it does not look massive enough...

This is suppose to be huge... but I just can't get the right feel with the textures...

Maybe if I changed the Xen background to a darker Xen Background???

I would still say make the front of the ship a little flatter rather than going into a spike point.

The concrete textures dont fit (concrete ship?) but the engine textures look good, with a little brush editing and a few sprites you could make them look more engine like.

Also, putting multiple texture types on the main body would be good. Which of course would mean adding more brush faces. Perhaps a ring like construct around the middle? As for the actual textures of the ship, try some Opposing force metal textures or some Half-life "Generic" textures.

Yeah, looks better now. Though that cockpit window looks somewhat bland, and makes the shuttle appear smaller than you've probably intended because it's quite a large window...

Nicer. The body does look rather plain, though. Maybe put piping and stuff on bits of it? That window needs a frame. In fact, tell you what, make it into a few smaller windows; that way it looks sensible without making the ship seem smaller.

Yea, that big window makes it look like a fighter craft at the moment, perhaps using a texture to make it appear as if there are multiple floors and many decks and rooms.

I still say the front of the ship needs work but this is good stuff so far :)

I'll work on the window... Not sure why I had it there in the first place, since the thousands of other widows along the side aren't visible... just made it look a little nicer...

I'm sick of brushwork on this thing... It doesn't look like it from the picture, but there are over 600 brushes in this badboy...

bah, It will look better when the camera zooms past it, making it look bigger,and in motion...

I don't want to make it too complicated, or it will be a hell of a time destroying it...

I'll just have one of the engines fall off toward the xen platform. I'll show a cool movie of it smashing through a canyon and getting stuck.

I ment the pointy part, when was the last time you saw any kind of large vessel that's front part goes down into a fine point? If you make it flat (more like this |= rather than like < that if you see what I am saying) it would be more realistic and look better.

That reminded my compo 15,the one that I didnt enter with...A ship was going to hit Xen Tree then fall with the Xen Tree on the ground...but I never finished it.Well,anyway...good luck.

Make the window maybe one-quarter or even one-eighth its current size. Add a row of them on the side for the grunts to look out.

One technique for making something look big is to put something familiar next to it and make the familiar thing small. We know generally how big windows are.. and we know generally how big 7th's pipes are.. Nothing has to be exact. Just something to make us think.. "If those pipes are even six feet in diameter, that's a HUGE @#%'ing ship!"

EDIT - Outline a hatch in the side. We can all relate visually to a hatch being about the size of a person.

hmm... thats a great idea...

I think I'll have xen platforms go past, but these platforms will be tiny.

Remember that large platform you jump to in the first level of Xen? The one with the poles... Ill recreate that, but make it tiiiny.... have it fly by as the ship goes along...

Plus, the ship will be over the Giant Xen planet, which Ill have look round as to suggest it was... well... a planet.
