I would think it interesting to see a modding team comprised of twhl experienced members and have it actually ran by atom and seventh.. It'd be cool to see a mod made here to have better organization with team leaders and so forth that decide on people to join them rather than people saying "oooh, im in", and then have them make some small portion if at all.. The mod would have a point to it and become a finished, possibly popular thing that would become a complete mod rather than the acustomed map packs that forum organized mods turn out to be. Is this possible seventh?

It is possible (apart from the being run by atom thing), but it'd involve people being avaliable and whatnot. Besides, who do we consider experienced and who isn't?

I guess experienced would be defined by skill, contribution, and have maybe a minimum of one year as a member.

Well that minimum of being here for 1 year is stupid because I have seen a few expereinced mappers come here. But yes very nice Idea, If it ever happens And I'm good enough I would join in and help.

what if the team gets crowded with mappers? We have so many mappers here and few modellers, coders, texturers :

Well, atom's absent and I'm too busy. Nice idea.

I prefer mapping my own ideas. I think that many of the experienced mappers think like that too. :)

That one year idea isn't that good. New members may have expirence too! How about guys that have a 5 star map in the vault/award/tutorial/compotition winner?
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-04 11:42:00 UTC Post #156150
whats wrong with Hostage Situation? I picked out who mapped for that.. it wasn't a 'oh im in' situation.

People who volunteered got picked for the most part... in fact, i think the only person who didn't volunteer was Daubster.. he just realised that we eneded him and was very nice to say yes.

But i don't really understand your idea... How would it be any different from any other mod.. even the n00beh-est mod teams wouldn't hire skill-less folk.

5 star maps don't matter, people sometimes will either spam the ratings up or down =/

Bah Humbug!

We did Run a TWHL based Mod, Andy was involved, so was SlayerA, and myself... And it all failed.

Unless you've got a firm base for your mod, don't bother.

sigh

Alas. "The Project" was not to be.

Well, im rusty as a mapper but i am a very good quality controller/tester so id be willing to help out there.

If theres a problem with something, i can find it and suggest a fix!

A time limit is a bad idea, instead let people put themselves forward to help and check out their previous work before you accept them.

ive never had motivation to make a detailed map... all my maps are fun maps covered with null because i never bothered to care really how my maps looked... especially since im a surf map maker

well anyway i would like to see a mod started here to see if i have wat it takes to make the team... (i would never go looking to join a modding team but since its twhl id love to take a chance)

so count me in to try out for the team (if u make one) and if i were asked to make a suggestion on what type of mod.. id say medieval (too many futuristic mods out there imo) well if ur still reading this im done... bye

Hey MNuTz. Guys this is my bro-in-law.

For those of you who have played OTOS, my compo entry, he's the one who came up with the window concepts.

Kasperg, Capt. P, Rimrook, Tlax, among other premiere members, could potentially produce some excellent mods...

Nice Idea :)

As some of you know, I WAS working in a singleplayer mod. I had 25 maps done before an important part was lost. I never had the energy to continue the mod, specially knowing that the results wouldnt be worth the effort. At least for now, I prefer to stick to unrelated maps. I just can't keep interest in the same theme for too long. But if I do come up with something, I might make a series of singleplayer maps.

I am taking a series of screenshots so you can see it. I'll post the links here since it's mod-related stuff.

The mod was called "Kasperg Evolution"

The story was something like: Kasperg Industries, in their multiple research facilities all over the World, discovered the source for eternal energy. However, the company is put to the test when a rival corporation learns of the discovery and surprise-attacks most of the labs. After the death of the best agents, Kasperg Industries decides to call Timothy Bwierk (it should be pronounced like the sound that a wild boar usually makes when it's angry) , a former member of Kasperg Industries now in retirement. Bwierk must visit the deserts of Egypt, a base in Antartida and eventually come face to face with the most evil corporation ever. But... which one of those two is actually more evil...?

If I wasnt studying architecture, I would gladly finish it or at least make it available for download. The way things are, I can't work on a single project for too long.

Speaking of Projects, where is Project?
Funny you guy's should bring this idea up :-)

If the following provides some direction for a Mod Team, then it will be worth the time writing it:

The Project had an idea, a conceptual story, a group of 15+ mappers, a web site and heaps of enthusiasm.
There were several mod's around the same time trying to do similar things, one which produced a playable mod was Issues.
What happened to the Project?

Due to the vast experience base of the mappers, we decided early on that submitted maps would be tested to see if they were 'any good'.
This was voted on by the mappers.
All agreed that if we were going to publish anything it should be of the highest quality (UpLink Quality).

This was our first mistake....

Some had difficulty working from a concept rather than a story base, others didn't live up to the standard required, and a pretty high standard that was. Others couldn't meet deadlines. Some had difficulty acceopting that their maps were crap.

The end of the project came about because we couldn't agree on the direction. Setting the standard so high had alienated most of the enthusiastic mappers.
Final submissions were made by:
Mine
Tlax
Hugh
PTS
SlayerA
Vassy
Zargol
ZombieLoffe (no Piccy)

I still have all the build files somewhere, including the RMF's.

If I was going to run the same thing again, I think it would be in the same vain as PQL and Issues.
Each member builds a level of 3-5 maps based on a loose story. They develope the story in their own level.
A coordinator links the maps together and builds the story around them with filler maps generated by the Mod admin team.

Good Luck,
Andy

How cool! LOL SlayerA had switchable texture for his floor indicator on his elevator!!!--AWSOME.

I would hate to be the coordinator of a project as big as that... Uber responsibility, and work!

Hi Andy! :)

I forgot just gow cool those maps looked. :o

Maybe everyone should have a map Revival - Kasperg - looking at you!
At least, release the maps that you have "Finished"

And that reminds me: I've compiling to do. :)

this whole 'modding team' idea to begin with is a bad one i beleive, picking mappers based on their skills is only going to invoke arguments and alienate the less talented.

Regarding The Project... ZombieLoffe

It's ages old too.

These forum organized mods usually just get abandoned due to lack of dedication and organisation. But if you get one off the ground, I'd be happy to (try to) contribute.
