I'm currently working on a Starship Troopers style map for Sven Co-op. I've just had some play test with some mapping pals and despite a few minor details, they really liked it. I'm hoping for a January release.

I realize the map is really dark, and I want it that way. Currently it uses baby voltigores, shocktroopers and Gargantuas. I do need some suggestions on what other monsters to use.

Antilions instead of voltigores? You must be mad! Antilions are ripoff of these insects from space marins(or something like that), the original sucked too, while voltigores are much cooler! :)

Mr.Good map: Those guns are from Hl2 like the antilions. Are write properly... I can hardly understand you.

hydeph: Try improving the cliffs and the terrain, check the terrain tutorial. The cliffs are just blocks, try even doing what I did in here which isn't much, but it's atlist something.

I am familiar with the mutliple tutorials on how to make cliffs and terrain; but they all suck. The amount of monsters/players/NPC's and other models plus a detailed and nice terrain would explode my shit as well as many others.

The baby voltigores are ARACHNIDS not ANTLIONS. Notice they lack wings.

The gun in the second screenshot is the S&I displacer gun converted to an RPG by Lazermaniac.

Also, Space marines? I'm pretty sure you mean Starship Troopers, which is what this map is based off.

Did you see what I did in my map? It's not acording to the trinangle terrain method and it wont crush your map.

Elon, those aren't antlions, but look a likes. Antlions rock btw..

Also, those weapons aren't from hl2 or hl2 likish, so be silenced! :tired:

The second one looks a bit like one from hl2 and the first one is the minigun from sven co op.

It's a nice idea. The hectic battles of the movie can work out pretty good in a game (Although it is somewhat illogical that the soliders run into the hordes of enemies without any supporting artillery or bombardement. I guess the exoskeleton from the original book would have fixed that. Too bad that it wasn't included in the movie).

And Starship Troopers is a memorable movie, quite entertaining, although not all good. I think a game was released recently, too, but it was bad according to the reviews - and I don't think I'll look further into that.

There are 2 starship troopers games. One is a strategy game which was released in 1999 ish and which quite frankly i thought was "Fucking Awesome!!!11!!" But the most recent was a very disappointing FPS. I played the demo and...well...I could review it but I don't want to make a gigantic off topic post of cursing and generally being pissed off.

Anyway. The screenies look sweet. Methinks a single player mod would "KICK TEH ASZ!1!

Great Idea Hydeph. I think somebody else did something similar to this and dispalayed their map a year or so ago, but I can't remember who...

@Luke: Natural selction is an Aliens ripoff, which itself was a ripoff of Starship Troopers. Other Robert Heinlein ripoffs are Warhammer 40k and StarCraft. NS as many of the ripoffs--StarCraft--are still excellent games though.

Indeed. The book was soooo much better, but the movie had some good elements "preserved" from the book... well sort of :)

Its too dark, StarShip Troopers was always well lit no matter what, brighten it up a little.

I would suggest using pit drones, that would be awesome.

Better, the cliffs aren't as blocky as before and it reduces the blocky feeling.

The lighting totally doesn't fit the sky. If it's dusk, then make the light_enviroment emit orange-ish light. Experiment till ya get it right, or use another sky, coz now it looks really ugly. :

Make it brighter! All the battles in Starshiptroopers took place in the day time when it was well lit, hell even the battles underground were incredibly well lit.

Make it lighter so you can see whats going on.

Or, just add flood lights near your base. It would help light the base up. Which is needed.

You need to add dimension to your cliffs...

Try and make alternating heights, and make them jut out at diagonals more.

Also, don't make it like a big square..

Here, I might make a little terrain to show you...
