So yeah I kinda want to make a tutorial but I'm trying hard to figure out how to get a screenshot directly of the editor. I've tried to "print to file" but that seemed too complicated. Do I need a capture card or something?

Print Screen key? paste in paint and save as jpeg?
Or are you speaking about a video tutorial?

I want to take a screenshot of the editor for a tutorial. I want to show step-by-step pics with numerous screenshots of the editor. (The 4 windows and such)

press print screen. then open paint and paste. crop what you need to and then save as jpg as kasperg said above.

You might want to toggle your taskbar to hide automatically so it doesnt show up in every screenshot.

Kasperg: If you use Alt-PrntScrn, Windows will only take a screenshot of the active window (i.e. Hammer). This will remove the need to have the taskbar hide itself.

Remember:
PrntScrn = Entire screen
Alt-PrntScrn = Active Window

Hey, that's true! I haven't used the alt+print screen combination for ages! Someone told me that print screen worked the same way so I never gave it a second thought...
