I keep hearing about hammer 3.5 and how you can see the models in the editor and not just the colored bricks. I googled for it, but all i came up with is a beta version.

Is there a Hammer 3.5 final version? Because im still running 3.4

As far as I know, H3.5 is still in a beta, and until it's a full version, I recommend sticking with 3.4.

I've just heard a lot of horror stories about evil bugs and stuff with H3.5 that I just stick with H3.4 for the time being. And no, I don't know about any updated FGDs.

o rly..

Well i think i might start to use it. Ill keep hammer 3n4 in case, but im really starting to get annoyed with my entites... every time i edit their angles and go to check back on them... they move back to zero. And the box itself doesnt rotate either.. then you need to compile to check if u completed the map right.. i dont feel like doing the cordon bounds either...
bleh.. ill just go to verc and grab 3.5 and anythin else i need. Ty much boxtop

I read on VERC that there was no more work being done on version 3.5, so what there is now is all you're ever going to get. I also heard that the angle pointer doesn't work, so that would be the cause of your problems.

Ok, here's the lowdown on version 3.5.

Yes, this is the final version of Hammer and no, it will never be a final release. Secondly, all these "horror stories" are completely false: I've been using 3.5 since it came out and I've not encountered anything that would indicate that the release is buggy.

3.5 fixes bugs from 3.4 and also adds model support, which is extremly useful when mapping. I suggest you try it out (you'll need the updated FGD for whatever game you're mapping for. You'll also need to extract the models from the PAK/GCF file).

There's nothing wrong with 3.5b except for the compasses. Use it, it's the last version of Hammer for HL1.

The compasses are a feature that was going to be added, but was never finished. It was for easy adjustment of Pitch Yaw Roll.

I assume you've got the WON version of Half-Life then. You will need a program like PakExplorer (Google is your friend) to extract the models, much like a ZIP file.

The bugs may only be in the stuff added to 3.5.(like sometimes it textures the models with costum textures that are used in the map)
Most of the bugs in 3.4 are fixed though, so it's much better then it.

I would really like some of the features used in hammer 4... too bad it wont be updated. Names in the 2D views and wireframe model rendering in them will be awsome.

@ Ant : Yes i playtest on the WON version of half life, then i just stick the .bsp's in the steamapps/halflife folder. Im too lazy to re-setup Hammer for STeam, so ill do it for 3.5.
Google IS my friend...

Yeah, totally untrue. I've been using 3.5 since November, and have never had a problem nor ever reverted back to 3.4.

As far as FGDs, I use the VERC-supplied FGD for Half-Life, and this one for cs.
