[this thread is not intended to offend anyone. It is simply a personnal observation and I do not wish to start a fireplace]

Is it just my imagination or has the Source SDK opened the world of mapping to n00bs!? I have just glanced through the 'Source Mapping' section in the forums and it just looks like half the people on there have just dived into hammer and started making blocks and cylinders and calling it a map. This is what I was afraid of when I first used the Source SDK. Making a basic map is far too simple with source and half of the work (I'm talking of props here mostly) is done for you.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a post yet saying "I've opened this hammer thingy and I've just got loads of buttons and 4 black boxes. WTF!?"

Same situation as with HL, only now there's a new black sheep for it - Source. ;)

As for how long a map can take, that depends. The better maps tend to take a few months usually. Size matters but it's mostly the polishing and tweaking, if not complete remaking of parts (everything to make it better ;)), that takes the most time imho.
