I just started with Hammer mapping, and I've already run into two errors....
1. The tutorial says that four .wad folders should be in my half-life/valve folder, however there is only one, which is "testdecal.wad".

2. Whenever I try to run a map, I get the error "filename.bsp not found. No such file or directory".

So, can anyone help me? Please?

Are you sure that you've typed in the correct ways to the maps folder?

your map configuration is wrong, and you're trying to use steam which holds the .wads in GCF files. extract them

1. Read the Steam tutorial.
2. This is an ambiguous error. Are you sure the map compiled successfully? Check the log for errors.

OK, I think I fixed the second problem. As for the first...I downloaded Nem's GFCScape, but I need to know where the files I need to extract are.
Thanks for the help, this should be my last problem.

They're inside half-life.gcf, and in valve/ within that.

OK...fixed that.
Now I have a NEW error! I can't seem to find an error in either the error log...so I'll post the compile process log.

Well is your map in the halflif maps file? it needs to be there for the game to recognize it and there is no error in your compile. one last thing : Get zoners compilers. the quake ones are good but zoners are (in my opinion) the best!
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-15 14:13:14 UTC Post #174493
Yes, the map is in the "Half-Life/valve/maps" folder.
And I have Zoner's tools, they're incredibly useful.

OK, I read the "running a .bsp" tutorial, did what it said (the run command "...hl.exe +map test") It started up half life, which started to load...but after the map was ready to launch, the entire thing disappeared. Half-Life literally closed itself.
What is wrong with my computer?! How do I fix this?

Er, you have the Custom Source Tools. You're mapping for HL. You want Zoner's tools. Check the Links page.
