Whenever i attempt to play a high graphics game (BF2, HL2) i get a BSOD.

Ive looked everywhere, did everything i can, and i cannot find an answer. Please help, i want to play BF2 again :/

BSOD usually arrises out of a hardware error. Run a memtest on your RAM (Google for it) and see if you've got corrupt RAM for a start. Also, make sure you're running the latest drivers for your graphics card.

BF2 is notorious for its little glitches. 

Well, it started in BF2, but now its in mostly all my games.

Im running the latest nvidia drivers, for sure. Ive tested my old stick of memory, i guess ill test this new one. And i KNOW its not the new one, because its been happening before i even bought it. And to test if it was my old one, i used my brother's 512 stick by itself, and it still didnt work. So im kinda not thinking its a memory problem.

Maybe your computer is overheating? Open up the side panel, stick a desk fan in there and see if it still screws up.

Looking at those unloaded driver filenames, sounds like a sound-related issue.

Is it me, or is it odd that it unloaded a load of .sys files instead of .vxd ones?

What's your sound card?

You might try ditching NAV, too, seeing as that's mentioned there. Worth a shot. It sucks anyway.

Yah, i was gonna try getting rid of NAV and see what happens.

Well, i JUST got a Soundblaster like yesterday because i had this problem. (I had this problem way before i got the card so i know for a fact its not the new one.) I thought it was the sound card confilcting with something else, so i replaced it. I uninstalled and disabled the onbaord (old one), and installed the new one. Youd think that would fix my problem but it didnt.

I have reason to believe the soundmax onboard card (old one) still has its drivers installed, and still causing a confliction. I just need to find a driver remover that supports the removal of soundmax, and it might fix my problem.

Anyone know where i could get a driver remover that supports soundmax?

Slightly odd that disabling NAV changed the error. Try uninstalling it... could be a driver conflict of some kind there. Keep hunting for driver removal stuff for the ol' card, too.

The thing is, its always back and forth, its not like by simply disabling NAV that it changed to DRIVER_, usually its one or the other on any given day when im feeling lucky.

I really dont think think it has to do with NAV, but if it comes down to it, ill uninstall it.

Its definently sound driver related.

And they dont make a soundmax driver remover :/

I'd probably try hunting down the obviously sound-related drivers from that list and hiding them away from Windows.

Likely in %WINDIR%system32 (Start -> Run -> that).

I was thinking about that but i wasnt sure what it could possibly do.

Ugh this is pissing me off.

I move them to a temp folder, restart so it empties the driver cache, attempt to play, and it still BSODs. I go into the DRIVER folder within System32 and i find that the drivers i moved out are now back.



EDIT: Ok, just found out, like 5 seconds after i cut them, they come back... !

Yeah, that's the inspired Windows File Protection at work, I imagine. Boot into safe mode and try.

Wow, now my comp isnt being a shit head and wont let me start up in safe mode. It gets stuck on this same fucking .sys file everytime i attempt it.

hah! boot from OS disk, and repair. worked for me on sound / video rerelated probs

The thing is, is the drivers that are causing the problem are from microsoft, so repairing it with the confilcting drivers wouldnt help one bit.

Try it anyway.

System restore if it wasn't too long ago.
Otherwise I boot up with one stick of ram if I ever get a IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS

Did a repair, and alls it did was cause more problems.

Took a few days to fix, but finally im in working order.

I havent tried BF2 yet but i doubt its gonna work

Do you know that you spent a LOT more time trying to fix this problem then you'd need to reinstall windows.

I dont have the backup capabilities.

Buy another HDD and back stuff up, HDD's are cheap these days.
