This is the sickest, most tricked out, expensive, monstrosity of a computer I have ever seen!

Its got 4 GPU's, 2 CPU's, 4 GIG RAM, Well, take a look for yourself....

http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pages/Aurora_ALX/alx_features.aspx?SysCode=PC-AURORA-ALX-R4&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT

I configured it up to 10,000 dollars U.S.

All I have to say is, I want that computer! God damn thats probably the kind of computer Bill Gates had 5 years ago!

Alienware is always ridiculous.

Uberness v2:
4 dual gpu video cards
dual FX-60's
8gig of PC8000 Ram
4TB HDD
1KW PSU
Phase Change cooling

not availible at this time
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 23:29:44 UTC Post #175731
Uhh...ok, there is only one FX-60. The FX-60 is the first of that line to use the dual-core configuration, but that moboard doesn't have two seperate processors as garg and Xy imply. One processor, two cores, and Hyper-Transport (AMD's Hyper-Thread).

But regardless of the numbers, that is a bitchin' comp.

the best part is the 'how do 4 gpus work' flash animation, so you install the gpus yourself??

No jobabob, they are simply showing u how they SLi the cards together so they each display one section on the screen, prolly 1/4 each.

the flash animation shows one card being inserted followed by a dual gpu that magically noclips through the heatsink/fan, repeated again for the other card

Meh, just buy the parts and build it. With alienware you pay for the flashy logo and a nice case.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-21 11:19:12 UTC Post #175854
TawnosPrime, HyperTransport isn't HyperThreading, noob. It's nothing more than a quick bus link. You don't see dualcore AMD CPU's having 4 logical cores, do you?
m0p m0pIllogical.

Zombieloffe: If I knew how to put a PC together I would...And I can't look inside my current PC because it has warranty as in if I open it, it will no longer be insured by DELL.

Quite a powerful peice of kit... bar far not the "Mother" of all computers however.

Habboi: Assembling a PC is just a lot of connecting plugs and screwing stuff into position. It's really not hard. Besides, there are tutorials. Don't buy pre-built.

Whats the use to spend so much money on a computer if you don't need it to be so powerfull. What program needs 8gig of ram to run, or run at optimum efficency? :P
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-21 15:33:10 UTC Post #175933
Building is easy. Learn how to do it then convince people you know to buy computers from you.

I just finished my new pc including install of XP, braided cables and replacing the heatsink on the GPU and CPU, 8 hours is still a lot of free time to waste
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-22 15:34:26 UTC Post #176095
Ever have your heatsink glue melt? I did :(
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-22 16:15:33 UTC Post #176099
If you mean the northbridge (the only heatsink I can think of thats usually glued down) then itd have to pretty shoddy glue to be thermally reactive in any way or you were oc'ing your mobo quite a bit
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-22 16:49:36 UTC Post #176105
Why not just go with a mainframe system or a vector computer? Not your average gaming system, but at least they're powerfull... :P
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-22 19:00:07 UTC Post #176144
The headsink on the processor is usually glued down, or clamped.

I think it burned out because my cpu fan was screwed up. Turned out the power cord for the fan was off :aghast: Luckily this was way back when 3 years ago :glad:

Ive never had a problem with the 3 massive (>500g) heatsink/fans Ive installed on my cpus over the past 5 years, including the crazy custom zalman ones which are absolutely MASSIVE.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-23 07:59:49 UTC Post #176221
Seconded; I have a pure copper Zalman and it shows no signs of falling off.

Ya its expensive, but its so,.................. omg my mouth is drooling over it.....
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-29 19:51:47 UTC Post #177406
Eww Alienware...they overcharge you for shoddy parts. My X1800XT is plenty for me. Plus that thing is a space heater and thats the last thing Id need in Phoenix.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-29 21:23:25 UTC Post #177420
Every PC company overcharges for computers. Building from the ground up is so much cheaper, and easy too. But, having a warranty is always good too. Alienware actually allows you to open and add parts without voiding the warranty. (unlike Dell) Warranty is key, but you do get warranties on the seperate parts if its custom built. The problem there is finding which one is flawed.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-29 21:43:24 UTC Post #177423
Warranties is for the clumsy :) .
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-29 22:01:18 UTC Post #177424
No, warranties are for when your upgrading your computer, go to the bathroom with the case open, and your cat climbs in to sleep there then deficates all over the Motherboard!
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-29 22:31:27 UTC Post #177425
Pfft, just build the thing yourself. Much cheaper.
