Being a Nintendo fanboy has made me support Nintendo when a lot of people put it down as being 'childish' and what not. But when Nintendo released all this cool information about their new "Revolution" console they go and CHANGE ITS NAME!!!!

That's right, apparently its called "Wii", pronounced "wee"!

I am not bullshitting and this was a bit late for an april fools joke so you can check the Official Nintendo Site, the actual Revolution Site or any news results in a Good ol' Google search.

I for one, am astounded in this change as I thought Revolution was a prefectly suitable name especially that this console has unique features that set it apart from others (e.g. the controller).

So what are your thoughts on the change and do any of you actually like this new name "Wii"

And now I end in one of many many jokes to come... "Hey mate wanna come round and play with my Wii"

I guess it is going to get more childish

I just heard about it. WTF IS NINTENDO THINKING?!! They just killed their chances. Revolution sounded awesome and was the perfect name for a console. Wii...what kind of retard came up with that?

Well, reading up on it and seeing that I have always had trust in the Big N to pull stuff off I believe that in a year we won't be as cynical and we will all be calling it by its name without resent.

that is near the top in the list of bad executive decisions. but i will still buy at launch, i will still call it a revolution, and i will buy one of those stickers (that i am absolutely sure will be made) that say revolution and you put over the wii title.

I don't think the name is relevant. Nobody today cares about Dolphin, the codename for Gamecube. What matters is if it offers something really revolutionary, and if developers make good use of those new features.
I doubt there'll be an internet option for the old games... You'll probably have to buy Mario Wii Kart to do that. As far as I know, Rare is making games for X360, so there will be no GoldenEye or Perfect Dark for Wii.

yeah, its stupid. theres already bout 1000 jokes and mikey taking of the name! Revolution was by far teh coolest name of the three next-gen consoles anyway, coz even I can admit, Playstation 3 isn't exactly imaginative. I wonder who was paid to think that up!!

It does draw more attention than the name Revolution does. Its free publicity. M_gargantua is right. Its ingenious. Everyone will be like "Hey you hear Revolution is called Wii?" Or " Yo nintendo's new console is called Wii, how gay is that???" Bad or good its totally free publicity. Very smart. They know they wont lose fans over a name, and know it will appeal to older people more than Revolution. Im still getting it at launch. Cant wait to download Mega Man X 1, 2, and 3!

On another note: Do you think Nintendo will screw us on the online purchase price of old games? Will older ones be cheaper than new ones? Are we talking under a dollar for Turbo Graphix 16 and NES games? Maybe 5 to 10 on N64 games, 10-20 for Gamecube, etc.....

Xyos, you don't really need to spend your money if you want to play NES and SNES games... I don't mind this backwards compatible thing Nintendo does, but I think they will have to come up with a series of new franchises if they don't want to stay behind. I mean, Super Mario World for GBA? That's a cheap way to sell a videogame you made +10 years ago... a bit lame if you ask me. :
I want to see how the new Zelda looks in Revolution. That looks like a good game, even though it looks like more of the same.

I know. I could just get a USB controller for the PC, download an emulator, and play them, but it wouldnt be the same. It is lame how they keep pushing old products, but dont forget those games were excellent, fun, and hold nostalgic feeling.

I don't care for the name, I was terribly upset with Xbox's 360 name, I mean I get it," ha ha xBOX 360, 360 means full turn around, a circle on the xBOX" Might have sounded better if it was the 3rd in line, and could be worse than PS3, wow, that is original. People will get used to the name, but I want to see what games are on it, and how they will play. If you don't want to say "Hey want to go play some wii" Just stick to saying Nintendo instead.....

It is intended as a multiplayer console. It's meant to invite non-gamers into the fray so they can easily pick up a Wii-mote and swing it around.

I got over the naming of it because in reality, it makes sense. Announcing the name a week before E3 was pure genius. And let's face, Nintendo's arguement of popular stuff having weird names (the iPod, Google and Ikea were a few examples) is totally true.

And heck, it's still the same console (one that I will be buying).

It sounds interesting, as long as they make games that don't seem like a preview of what you can do (like how they have the orcrastra game). And, I am not to sure how I would like swinging my arms around like an ape with someone else who isn't playing in the room, I would rather stare at the screen like a zombie.

I think that the value of a console (or anything, for that matter) is based purely on performance. I mean, sure, i wouldnt want to name HalfLife2 somthing like Barbie Princess Adventure (for obvious reasons). Name can have a big effect on the sales of a product... But then you come to the question: What defines a good name? I would personally pick "Revolution" just because i think thats a cooler name. Some would Disagree, but in the end, what matters is the performance of the console.

Wii is gonna pwn all other consoles.
360 already has hardware problems. Just like the originals. (they lit on fire)
Ps3 is too much of a computer, and is predicted to be upwards of $500 (screw that i hate sony anyway) And im planning on stocking up on sega Genesis games, Nes, Snes, N64 games... Using the contoller as a nunchuck is just a bonus.
