I make a track train so that the player will use it to soar over slime. When I make it, it appears in the middle of the room, lower than were it should be. IT isn't anywhere near where it should be, and is faced backwords. Whats going on here?
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-05 20:25:32 UTC Post #18425
First of all:
Check the 'first path corner' cause thats the starting point.
And also, do you have a origin brush?
I think trains have to face the east when created... Atleast its like that with vehicles.

No, i think they have face West

yes, I know the first path corner, and I'll try the west thing, but why does it show up nowhere near where it really does start?
Thnks for the help.

I'm sure it must be the first path_corner. I can't think of any other reason why

WHat do you mean by an orgin brush? do you mean the train itself?

I have never made a track-train before so be patient with me, just normal trains. I'm a newbie, remember?
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-06 12:25:37 UTC Post #18511
I doubt that they would have to face east, the angle by default for everything is 0, which is east, just like gun turrets.

OK I am trying to do the same thing with my map, lol. When I compile it the train is going through the roof. I know how to make vehicles and you have to go west... I think that you need to have an origin brush in the middle of the train thats included in the train,at least thats how I made and elevator using func_train but I dont understand either why it appears way off where it should. And you want to know something even stranger? For the train controls on mine that I used the AAAtriger texture you could see it, it was still where it was supossed to be.

Remember, the origin brush's center must correspond exactly to the position of your path_corners. If not, you might find your train going diagonally towards them and not straight. I used {invisible texture to make invisible switches.

What do you mean by orgin brush? is this a newbie Q?
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-06 23:50:20 UTC Post #18594
Origami... Origin... Ah, Here it is:

Origin Brush: A brush textured entirely with the "Origin" texture, and used to determine the centre(of rotation) of a brush-based entity.
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-07 10:47:24 UTC Post #18640
how do you make one?
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-07 16:23:58 UTC Post #18670
I've seen there HUGE origin brushes in .eg cars for Counter-Strike, my point is how does the brush and i know what is the front and back of it? so it will be in the right possition when it starts and not backwards?(path_corner 1 ~ start pointing to path_corner 2)?
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-07 16:37:32 UTC Post #18674
It's the center of the brush that is the origin.

how do you know where it is?

To make an origin brush simply make a brush with the origin texture, then tie it to the entity that needs it

The centre of the origin brush is basically the crosshair-type thing (the handle) you get in brushes in WC/Hammer. That's why when you make a gun in hl, you have to set the distance of the barrel from the origin, and it's verticle and horizontal etc.

Well, if you know not of this basic knowledge, then there is little you can achieve as a mapper... ;)
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-09 13:00:02 UTC Post #18835
OK, you have your train thing right? Just make a small block with the origin texture in the center of the darn thing, just make it right in the middle of the floor of the train...!

so I just make a small brush withthe orgins texture and put it right on the path corner? Do I have to do something to make it work from their? make it an Entity?

sry I still don't get it, lol.
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-11 22:57:46 UTC Post #19132
Your origin brush needs to go in the middle of your func_train, not the path_corner. Then you highlight the origin brush, and cntl-click to also highlight the func_train. When both are highlighted, do a tie-to-entity. When the dialog box comes up and says "Do you want to tie everything to the existing func_train?" Click "yes". Now you finally have an origin brush in your func_train. When you compile the map, the func_train will show up wherever it's first path_corner is. Adjust the path_corners and recompile to get the func_train to be where you want it.

ugh?!?! Its like making an elevator that moves sideways! There's a tutorial on it for god's sake! LOL, I guess I am a little late with my point-less complaints ehh?
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-14 11:00:37 UTC Post #19345
IT still is in the middle, after all that. I give up. and its not like making an elevator sideways, I'm using a track_train. Must be a glitch.
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-14 12:55:34 UTC Post #19356
Sounds like a good map to put in the problem maps section of the vault.
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-14 15:49:16 UTC Post #19371
OK, I'll do that. THnks all for trying so far.
Posted 20 years ago2004-03-16 20:26:30 UTC Post #19511
what the hell is a track_train? You must be makin it from some other mod either that or I had to much to drink.... Why don't you be simple and just make it like an elevator sideways? ;)

tracktrains are in HL
