I found this place exactly the same as m0p did, via the link on the VERC forums, saying that the map exchange sub-forum was closed but you can post maps, etc here.

I came here through playing on the TFC server http://www.axlstfc.com. They are now dead, but that was the most fun server I have ever played on. It was ONLY custom maps.. One of those maps was done so well and got me thinking of my own ideas for maps, and then I decided to make em.. I went to their site, and they had a link to mapper resources, TWHL being one of them.. And then it progressed from there.

When I wanted to learn mapping I typed "Hammer mapping" into google. I browsed a few and came to TWHL. I liked the site navigation and look. I also liked how it had the "In the beginning parts 1-6." Very helpful.
The only sites I referenced for mapping were TWHL and the Valve wiki

My brother bought HL many years ago, i was hocked! And many years later it got to my knowledge that you could make your own maps. Many years later i started with this so called mapping and i was googling for tutorials, found TWHL.

I was looking through my dad's binder of old CDs and found Half-Life. I loved it. Then I found this thing on the disk called Worldcraft. I installed it and tried to make some maps. I needed help so I searched for "Worldcraft help" in Google. I found this site and registered 1 or 2 years later.

i can here attempting to use Hammer 3.5 to map for source - it took 2 weeks for me to realise why I was getting:
"map not found" error!!!

My friend and i wanted to make a counterstrike map of my highschool.
which, we all know is a disatser as a first map.
But i downloaded hammer anyway and i needed some tutorials. So i searched the web and got some ladder and door tutorials from here, and soon enough i started coming here like 3 or 4 times an hour and i just became a member.
everyone here is so nice lol
