what program do I need to re-make a map, or to decompile it? I forgot the name of it. This guy I play with wants a cs_italy_cz map but with a few changes to it. It'll be for cs 1.6 of course :D I searched the forums and Tut's but I'm dumb, I can't find an answer. I have the converted one for cs 1.6, but can't find the right program to decompile it. And yes, I know re-makes are dumb, but my buddy really wants it done, to make it a more even map. It is wayyyy "T" sided as it is. Thanks !!

I assume you're looking for WinBSP, but there's no way to just decompile a map and add a few things into it, then recompile. The brushwork is all messed up when you decompile a map, as it carves the whole map out of a big block. You would have to reconstruct all the brushwork to be able to recompile correctly.

You can however take the decompiled map, and compile with entities only, and thereby edit any entity in the map, like spawns, sounds, etc.

I've done it before... it's easy and fast to do.

If you want to change any brushwork like elon said, you have to rebuild the whole thing :(

Now seriously, I think he just confuses between your skull and my cacodemon. There is some resemblence...

If you remember how it looks like just remake it from your memory, much more fun and then the map will be all yours.

isn't it against the copywrite to decompile one of valves maps, edit it and recompile it anyway?

You can't really "steal" anything from a decompiled map, excepth maybe the idea of it or how it was done. In the Black Mesa: Source mod if you recall, they were/are recreating the whole original game--again-- for the Source engine.

I could be wrong, but I don't think they paid for any licensing.

Poop. That's what I was looking for, WinBSP. Thanks. I remember hearing about decompiling maps and having them all screwed up, but never tried it(obviously). I was hoping I didnt need to rebuild the whole thing. Thanks for the input guys!
