Mr. Habboi, I'd like to start by saying that the music on the video was rather annoying. :)

The level design is not up to your usual standards, and in a competition which involves remaking something, I'd suggest you focus a lot more on brushwork and lighting detail. At the moment, it's almost just a straight remake of the original, and doesn't look improved too much (apart from Sources nice lighting and high resolution textures). Obviously, it's just a work in progress, but I'd suggest you go back to the buildings you have already constructed and detail them a little more. Decals/Overlays, props, and lighting details will definitely help.

At the moment, I just can't see it placing anywhere near a trophy against such quality opposition (Rabid, Kasperg, Doodle, etc.)

Keep on going, and take these comments to improve your map, instead of becoming insulted by them. Those who take offence to such things are complete knobtards and have no idea what it takes to improve.

Where is the 'station' supposed to be?

Lookin good so far, though in shot 000001 there seems to be some strange fance to the right, not quite sure what it is therefore.

And what is the rock texture called and is it standard in HL2?
I haven't done the station yet ;P - This is the tunnel-bit.

Also these are pretty unfinished and just compiled to test the lighting so things like roofs are disappearing and sides of walls are going away etcetera D:

And dust rockwall is the clifftex but I think I told you that :D

is the lightning alright? My monitor has a rather high brightness gamma compared to others so im not quite sure if you people can see anything at all.

I've done about half of mine (the boarding side of the rail), still got alot of displacment and brushwork to do for the other side, aswell as the skybox. Damn HDR and prop errors are slowing it down a bit, but it's still going steadily. :)

Think of it like the media releases from the mod "Black Mesa". They show the old screenie, then the new one, which while it looks completely different, still maintains the essence of the old shot.
You will be judged on how well you not only establish the theme of the screenshot, but also how well you establish its own unique theme. Creativity and imagination will also be a deciding factor
So, let me get this right. Can I apply my own original theme (keeping the same layout of railway, slopes and scattered builidings) or does it have to be a normal conversion to Source?

You can pretty much redo the entire map as long as you have a train and a station and buildings and a tunnel and whatnot. To my knowledge, anyway...cause that's what I'm doing ;P

Nice stuff, Trapt. I'd add some fences by the buildings up on the ridge though, because the lighting on the side of the buildings indicates there's a path there (otherwise you wouldn't need lights there, right? :)), and since there's a rail below... I'm talking about the yellow building specifically.
Alternately, take out those lights to put more focus on the entrance of that building plus the truck.

Rabid, your architecture is looking great and it breathes a worn-off industry athmosphere. I'm not sure about the greenish lights though, in combination with the red brick and reddish skylight. Some more yellow would suit the red better, I think. Also, consider upping the brightness some. It's nice and moody, but a bit too dark to show off the good stuff. Might be just the screenshots though.
