no. People who still have to run in software mode must suffer not being able to play things, to motivate them to get a new video card.

Stretch the HL engine to its limits!

scrap that. valve updated software rendering or this 800 poly thing every one goes on about it wrong cause I just got 1300 polys in a test map useing software without a problem

Using a higher subdivide setting is said to not work on software mode, but i don't know that. Standard subdivide is 240.

but why change that? lower = high r_speeds and higher can cause bad surface extents

Changing it to a higher value causes less cuts in the map, less r_speeds, but software rendering may not work at that moment.

nope. i just get bad surface extents lol... but i was getting them anyway untill I cut a few thing in half...
lol...but I not getting to a lag point on r_speeds in openGL anyway so why bother?

In source the subdivide setting is 1024, some people might ask why we don't use the same for hl.

err...mayby cause source engine can handle it and the hl engine can't?
