Hey, I'm using Fraps to make a CS movie.
Actually, its kinda like a clan video. So, I would like my friends to take some clips as well.
It works fine for one of them, but for my 4 other friends, it either lags a loooooooot when taking the clip OR it hangs the game.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance!
Oh, and maybe somebody could link me to a more reliable in-game recorder? :D

If the software works in one of your friends computer (and mine, and a lot of other people's), the problem is probably in their computers.
They might be trying to record the video at some insane high resolution, which could explain the lag.

And a high framerate. Also causes a lot of lag because fraps need more resources to save the extra FPS.

While easily the best, Fraps really needs an overhall in terms of user-customisation, there arent nearly enough options and the frame rate counter is a giant yellow mess.

now now, I can see his problem, fraps doesnt always like to work well, and can be annoying at times. This time its probably his pc but really, it needs a whole wack of fixes and user customization as Jobabob said..

For me who has well...An alright PC it does lag...Set a max FPS number and turn down the graphics of your game.

Tis how I got EP1 footage on youtube.

No, always set the FPS count to 25. This is standard video framerate and thus, you will get no problems when trying to edit the video.

You may have to set the video to Half-size and not record audio if you want no lag.

24, hmm, should try that.

Anyways, good to see another person who thinks Fraps suck.. :D
Although, as Hunter said, we can't blame the proggy.

..Damn crappy PC.

Hehe I watched that again a few days ago thinking about that message...You should be honoured...I get emails like every five minutes saying thanks and having a name like yours in the video makes people remember your name and when they finally meet you then they'll go "Hey it's the guy on that video!".

24.74 i believe ZL.

Bloody decent program, it gives you raw qualilty footage from a game. That the masses cant handle such a program and blame there own incompotance and lack of any understanding of video editing to it isnt the fault of the creators.

Definately needs an overhaul as stated earlier.

yeah, great program... but lacks options.

Although, I like it because I believe it to be the most economical program.... if you know what I mean. It just means that the video needs a bit of 'tidying' in a video editing prog.

However, for ALL screen recorders, you do need quite a good PC, - nothing is worse than watching back a laggy video - it bums! :)

Haha, sorry pepper.
I agree, Fraps is a good program.
Well, to those whom fraps works well of course...
I'll tell my friend to try turning down FPS and game graphics...
and get a better com.

i mostly use fraps for screenshots and fps display.

fraps is better for this and also client-based videos

for server vids (i.e. recording a networked game from a spectator's view on an unused computer) gamecam is best.

this may have been covered. but its most definately his computer. its not fast enough. i should know, i get the same thing on this computer. My suggestion is do it yourself. or get a clanmate to record him. its easier anyway if you just get one person to do the recording. less file transfering.

the lag is probably cause of the fps, i use it a bit and it lags cause of that, just up the fps. i think.
