Doom was the first game that was truely 3d because it was the first game to use height differences.
Indeed. Although once you start mapping for it, you generally start thinking of it as 2.5D. It took some extremely tricky ... uh ... tricks to simulate having one level physically above another; it was really more of a 2D layout with, as you say, height differences.

In fact, back on topic, sorta -- I've occasionally thought of rebuilding the DOOM levels for the HL engine... Never have, because I never have that sort of time available...

doom was not fully 3d, you couldnt look up or down and no object could be rendered that wasnt attached to the floor or ceiling. Im pretty certain Duke3d was the first 3d game that supported nonattached 3d objects.

What's keeping you from showing some screens of it? It almost feels like you're pulling our leg about the whole thing, although I know you aren't. It's just rather annoying that there hasn't been anything to prove that this even exists yet, just your word.

Don't take this to mean that I think you're faking the whole project, I don't. I just don't have any idea of what to expect.

I understand how you feel, and its alright.

I am not using this as an excuse but I have been quite busey trying to get my website back up and running and of corse finishing the project.

what sort of prove do you need? visualy it looks the same as the half-life games and the areas are left un modified therefore they look as they always did just open up to the other areas so therefore screens shots are not that diffrent from any in the game you have seen before.

but since you insist i will put up a small gallery of pictures explaining them and the process.

I will also be realsing a sort of "demo" of the predisaster C1a0 or the Anom Mat Labs Secter C this will be in map format. some content will not be in it as this is being saved for the mods relaease and this area will contain one of half-lifes most guarded areas never visted only seen.

Media & demo first - comments and suggestions after. I really can't give you any comments or suggestions, unless I see any screenies of the areas, you've recreated.
Really looking forward to the demo & screenies. :)

Btw, use the edit button to add info to your post, rather than posting multiple posts.

Sorry for the Bump.

Way too much overlapping with Black Mesa, Someone made this, Just found it today. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/87/Black_Mesa_Research_Facility_HL_Map.jpeg

Thats only Half-life so adding OP4 and BS to that would just be adding more overlaps.

But because you are remaking It I guess you could get around it.

hey man dont listen to any of these guys saying its pointless, there obviusly not the target audince, but i think you should totally finish it! it would be great to walk around black mesa like a normal scinetist on a normal day
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-22 15:15:40 UTC Post #200417
Yeah, totally finish "it". I'm really starting to think "it" doesn't even exist. :aggrieved:
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-22 16:03:46 UTC Post #200420
to the poeple that think that it doesn't exist...I dont have to explain anything to you, you can think what you want just wait and watch for 2007 and see for yourself if its real or not.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-22 16:12:41 UTC Post #200421
You're absolutely correct, you don't HAVE to explain anything to us. You don't HAVE to show any screenshots. But it makes NO SENSE AT ALL why you wouldn't want to, and why you haven't so far. It takes a matter of minutes to upload some screenshots to Imageshack and post them here. Are you just so busy you don't even have enough time to do that? You have enough time to recreate the entire Black Mesa Research Facility, but not enough to post an image?

Geez.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-22 20:50:45 UTC Post #200459
Yeah, Releasing screenshots would also bring more people to support you with this, I'm sure having fan/supporters would keep you motivated.

But anyway Srry is right on all of it, You don't really have to. But I'm sure we'd all like it if you did.

From the one picture you have up, it looks pretty nice, but not true to the original. It's got dark blue lighting, while the original is bright and white. You say it's at night, but that doesn't explain it, since it's underground. It's always going to have the same lighting, no matter what time of day it is.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-26 04:06:30 UTC Post #200883
Well, its night so most people sleep there.

Show us something different, because you could easily have copied that map from the SDK wich includes the source for it.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-26 04:31:13 UTC Post #200886
Still seems rather unnatural that ALL the lights would be turned off.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-26 05:32:28 UTC Post #200887
Yay a pic at last...Looks nice, in fact that's the first time I've seen a map use that kind of blue lighting so well...Good job.

The ceiling texture is different from the original one, so you can be certain he has at least worked on this map.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-26 15:09:09 UTC Post #200954
in the screenie the light looks blue it looks much better in game Idk why it turned out to be so blue in the picture, all the lights have yet to be added to this map so it will be much brighter, the ciealing texture will be changed amoung other things.

Offtopic, sorry.
doom was not fully 3d, you couldnt look up or down and no object could be rendered that wasnt attached to the floor or ceiling.
Download Doom Legacy. DL lets you jump and aim along the x and y axis.
Does a floating world block count as something that isn't attached to the floor or ceiling? Because you could do that.
