Yesterday when I ran Steam a news box popped up and said that Valve was finally plannig to change the prices of the weapons in CSS according to what guns are more popular ingame.
I tried looking for it on the steam website but there is no trace of the news anywhere.
Is this a joke? If not, what do you think? And what do you predict will be the outcome for the new prices?

The M4 is a very popular choice. It's price will probably move up quite a bit. :

I'm not sure I do. I'd rather them add a new gun(NEW MACHINE GUN DAMMIT) than change the rpices on the same ones we've been using for years.

What about the auto-rifle? In alot of servers they are not to be used because of how much lethal damage they do. :|

oooooh you got a point.

Since a lot of servers outlaw waepons like the AWP and autosniper, they could get really cheap :/

I'm sure they'll take that into consideratioon. if they base it purely on poularity I think I'll cry.

Good idea, this. Maybe we'll see a change in the AK/M4A1 trend that's been going on for 8 years.

Yah. It'll be interesting anyway.

if theres anything the CS fans want, its changing its most fundamental gameplay dynamic

still, EA probably would charge actual money for the weapons

actually all the cs fans hate the idea..... if you look on forums and stuff theres like 19 billion posts of people just saying how bad they think it'
ll be.... some of them even saying they'll go back to playing 1.6 because they hate the idea so much... ;)

Well put.
I really like this new idea, it's bound to mix up the gameplay and stop those AWP whores.

It'll be interesting but they'll be restards complaining since in clan matches the prices are what players know from memory so they know exactly what to buy at the start...But changing it will annoy them...

It makes a change mind.

Maybe there will be a CS MMO where everyone owns a slice of the world, and the terrorists and ct's would have to plan and strike a whole lot more stategically than usual, take hostages and make demands for money and weapons and all that. Or blow up a target and get paid by a boss man or something i don't really know...

Changing the weapon's prices dynamically is a really great idea.
Not only will it change the gameplay and force the players to use a larger variety of the weapons given ingame, but it'll also be quite interesting to see, how this will change the clans' tactics, in clan matches. :)

Great idea.

It won't be dynamic. Its a one time thing. Its just based on a survey, basically.

More weapons? are you insane?

CS already has about a dozen "New Weapons" - It's the biggest easter egg of them all!!!!!1!!1

You can access these new weapons by looking Above & below the M4A1, AWP, & AK47!!!!!!11!!!!!1!!

yea kol, exactly my point ;)

lol, ftw.

It's not that CS needs more weapons - it just needs different weapons. Honestly, throw in a nailgun, flamethrower or RPG in there.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-03 16:17:45 UTC Post #198406
Oooh, flamethrower. But, that would cause a whole lot of Tking, pyro freak dont mind whom they burn, as long as it burns :badass: .
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-04 15:15:33 UTC Post #198505
Well, it does add more realism which is cool to think about... But on the other hand I like CS for its simple, non-dynamic gameplay and I dunno about the change.

Oh... and Flamethrower and RPG ftw!

There should be a CVAR for it, or this will destroy competetive CSS. Its quite a crap idea, just like CSS. But hey, what do i care, 1.6 is much better than CSS. I stopped playing it on release, the hitboxes are pretty screwed up, getting a headshot has never been easier. And god they got rid of the headshot animation, i loved that thing. Overall the more valve mess with the game, the crapper it becomes, I never lagged in 1.5 but i have constant problems in 1.6. I want back 1.5. Also I am one of the little amount of people who does not agree that a little bit of realism in a game is good, I quite hate it. Like fatigue and junk, it just annoys me. Its all in your opinion.

How will it destroy competitive CSS? Are competitive players too daft do learn the new prices? Too stupid to adapt?

I don't understand the problem people have with Source... I love the new graphics, the realism... I think some people just need to learn to suck it up and adapt to the new gameplay.

Well, actually, Valve's netcode has borked up the accuracy of the weapons. It has something called "aim compensation" or something along those lines, which essentially predicts where the bullet is going to land based on latency. As such, you get some weird anamolies (i.e. headshots when the gun wasn't aiming anywhere near the head, etc).

But yes, I do like CS:S. Whinging retards those kids are...

Dude, they've had latency compensation for years, I'm pretty sure.

CS:S is much nicer than CS.

Weapon kickback was obliterated in CSS. That's the reason I hear the most.

Duh, it wouldn't be Counter-Strike if you threw them in there. It would be more like TFC. Also it would be noobish as hell considering it doesn't take much to kill a person in CSS. (Talking about health not about skill.) You would get complaints in every game. Plus for it to make sense only the terrorists would get them. Then that leaves the CT's at a disadvantage.

Or just play cs1.6 which is still thriving, LOL.
The main reason I dislike source multiplayer is the hugastic load times, whereas in HL and mods, going from server list -> playing usually takes less than 20 seconds.

Flamethrowers FTW. To little fire in modern games. We need more napalm, flametanks, Flamethrowers, Molotov Cocktails, and anything else that burns!!

Is it me or is CSS getting a little boring after so many years of the same thing over and over?

Dont get me wrong its a great game, but Its been the same thing for YEARS. Maybe its time for some new weapons. Like a bow and arrow for instance. :)

Well, the current version has far less bugs, than the release one. That's a pretty conservative point of view, actually. I understand, that CS:S is different from 1.6 (new engine, slightly changed gameplay, etc.) although bitching about 1.6 and complaining, that it has more bugs, than 1.5 is just bullcrap.
1.6 is the same game, built on the same engine, with some bugs fixed and 3 new weapons added. The gameplay is completely unchanged and if 1.6 lags - I'd suggest looking for a proper server.

And I agree, that CS:S could use some new weapons. A few more machineguns, shotguns and maybe smgs would be pretty interesting.

I often wonder why Valve hasn't incoorporated the CZ:DS weapons into the CS. The LAW and machete would be a great addition to CS.
