Much like the chrome effectThe chrome effect works much much differently. Its not just something you apply to a skin, otherwise the chrome doesn't work right. Real chrome isn't based on the UVmap of the model, its simply distributed all at once evenly over every part of the mesh but isn't actually affected by the UVmap, if that makes sense. What you get as a result is a skin that can be shiney if set to chrome, but is black or unskinned-looking if its not chrome(because its not based on the UVmap so the model "thinks" that there is no skin).
