For some reason my additive models are no longer showing up. In this photo its a model hack of a grunt with a laser sight attatched to it's head, but the laser is'nt appearing additive. Is there a setting or something I'm missing?

I believe you can apply additivity (word?) to a set of polygons with Half-Life Model Viewer. Its the only way that i know of...

looked it over, but can't see it at all. What I did was make the required laser textures additive, and resaved the model. So now in HLMV additive works fine, but when I put it in a map, its not additive.

After searching I found this:

You need the new rendering dlls.
And I think you have to make the textures additive like this

you only apply additive to certain texture or skins. Much like the chrome effect.

yes, I know that... ...that was'nt the problem, I know how to use it. It just was'nt working due to old dlls..

Either you got some VERY l337 texturing and lighting, or you're using source... but... then you wouldn't need the new dll's and such... so WOW! Nice textures, nice lighting, and nice model...

sorry, no screenies yet. Just working on a mini mod of my own. Once I got it 75% done and know that I will be completing it, then I'll start a new thread and show yas all the screenies, until then, well.. be patient. Although, if you guys know any voice actors, get them to PM me. I'm making the script now.

Also, it will be done for HL1. Won, and Steam.

Much like the chrome effect
The chrome effect works much much differently. Its not just something you apply to a skin, otherwise the chrome doesn't work right. Real chrome isn't based on the UVmap of the model, its simply distributed all at once evenly over every part of the mesh but isn't actually affected by the UVmap, if that makes sense. What you get as a result is a skin that can be shiney if set to chrome, but is black or unskinned-looking if its not chrome(because its not based on the UVmap so the model "thinks" that there is no skin).

Yes for HL2 models. But for HL1 models, Its only disperced evenly over the mesh if you assign it to each UVmap (texture). Which then looks terrible. :D
But in terms of how to assign I think Rimrook was trying to explain.
