Hey :)
In surf maps in 1.6, I can not see across the whole map,
after a certain distance, everything just cuts off into air.

Is there anyway, like a console command or something, to change how far a player can see.

Thanks for any help ! ^_^

(PS These aren't my maps, so I can't set it in Map Parameters or whatever you use in hammer)

Is 4096 the max? I'd like to set it higher.

espen180... You're plain wrong. Go to the map properties and set "max viewable distance" to whatever you like. It's in units.

If you're trying to change the view in 1.6, you probably can't (not too sure) and for Hammer do what srry is saying BUT! Since you probably can't open it in hammer and all, there's nothing to do. :( (I think srry is wrong about epsen)

Ohhh... Gosh. Either I never even read all of the first post, or I entirely misinterpreted it. You're actually right, espen180. Sorry about that.

However, as explained in this thread by rowleybob, you can decompile the map, and then recompile it with only the entities changed. Technically, the map properties are within the worldspawn entity, so you may be able to change the view distance and recompile it. This would be a different map though, and you wouldn't be able to use it interchangeably with the previous version.

Hey, whatever you say. I've never tried either method. :)

One thing that may help is to use OpenGL in the video properties of the game. It sounds like you may be using software mode, which limits the amount of polys that can be displayed (compared to openGL.)

ye thanks, I know how to do it in Hammer (and decompile and all)

I was just hoping for a console command like "gl_maxview 10000" or something, Im gonna try what SlayerA said,

Thanks again ^_^

Be sure to let us know if OpenGL fixed the prollem. ;) That way anyone researching the same thing can find an answer.

Heh, turns out I was using OpenGL, so it didn't help the max veiwable distance :

I also tried higher resolution, but that just makes the "cut-off point" for your view far less jagged, which is improvement after all ^_^

I'm sure now, the only way to change it is to decompile the map, which I don't like doing.

So thanks all
