when i download a mod and place the file into my sierra/half-life folder, than when i play hl and press"custom game and refresh list", the mod doesnt show up. Any suggestions?

Check the folder directory, make sure its going into the right place. Also, make sure it actually is a mod and not just a zip with proper folders setup. A mod should have the file liblist.gam if I recall correctly. Not at home to check.

well i even tryed this w the first place water comp entry. I unzipped the file, placed it into my half-life folder, ran hl/custom game/refreshlist, and nothing popped up but a few old games i dont even have. Maybe my hl is like out of date or something? or am i doing something wrong.

It could be out of date, but it's not like it would make any difference. Those old mods you see in there are optional downloads that are obviously broken by now, so don't worry about them. If you're still unsure about the version, check in the lower right hand corner of the menu. It should be 1.1.1.0, as that's the newest version.

And of course, as Ant said, make sure that liblist.gam is in there. That's mandatory.

they do NOT go in the valve folder.

i'm just pointing it out since the only reason it wouldnt show up in the custom games list would be it being in the wrong place.

my version of hl isnt 1.1.1.0, i think its like 1.0.0.9, or something, ill check when i get home. "its the original cd of hl "its old"i cant even play dm on line thow i think its bc of my account.

I highly recommend that you update your HL to 1.1.1.0, since most mods and maps require this version to be installed, or else they won't run properly or not run at all. You can get the 80 MB patch from my website. This patch also installs DMC, TFC and Ricochet. If you don't want these mods, simply delete the corresponding mod folders. Saves up on disk space a lot.

You need Steam to play HLDM. Playing HLDM with the old Won version of Half-Life is no longer supported, since Won has been taken over by Steam.

i downloaded the patch and the winner for the water comps mod worked but when i selected easy to play it, a box popped up saying half life encountered a problem and than it exited out. And it kept doing it
