I'm making a map with a stupid battleship and I have it 'floating' over a partitioned sea. Of course its lighted up. I've got an alloc failure before I've partitioned the sea coz it was a titanic slab of water. After partitioning that stupid sea I've got that map compiled perfectly with lights on. And while I'm compiling that thing, I was playing GL-117!!! Assuming that it will not face any problems anymore, I've copy pasted a modified and more decent-looking battleship. It has longer stern than the earlier ship. But this time that alloc failure has appeared again! I did everything, I've also partitioned the skybox, and the ship, but still failed. What could be the problem?!

...and another question, how to do HTML stuff in the forums??

allocblock:full error explained

You can't do HTML on the forums, seeing as it's a security risk for embedded objects and the like. However, you can use BBCode to format your posts as Urb explained.

edit:ignore the last question..back to the topic.

it's memory allocation failure, sorry.

what could be the probable reasons..? I've deleted the underside of the skybox and also chopped it into pieces.. Do I have to divide large things into pieces? When I played the lighted version of the map I've found out that there were holes in the water. So I fixed it with extending the brushes and merging it with other brushes...

probable reasons:

A. Too many .wads
B. Weird texture stretched...
C. Too much crap
D. You're an idiot
E. All of the above

EDIT: fix'd, divided the sea... but took 1 hr compile time

AFAIK, HL's engine can't handle wide open spaces. Also, try making the water a func_illusionary instead of a func_water (if you haven't already). func_water breaks up the brush into 64x64 sections to simulate wave motion. Hence, a large water brush could cause a memory problem.

What are you on about, Boxtop? I once made a flat map that spanned almost the entire available area in Hammer. It ran fine. I didn't ever put too much detail in that, but I've seen in done in mods like The Gate, where they made gigantic deserts with terrain and all.
