Right, im currently working on a map, regularly testing it etc etc, but i changed the textures round, and when i try to run the map now i get:

Fatal Error: WARNING: couldn't open textures.wad

so ya... um how do i fix this?

btw, i called the file textures.wad because i couldnt think of anything else ^^

Ah.
This is because you haven't put the wad file/s (half-life texture packages) in the right place.

You will need to get GCF scape to open the GCF's in your steam account folder ("steam/steamapps/[NICK]/...")

If you are mapping for Half-life, you will need to open the GCF called "half-life" (duh) and look for the WAD files.
When you get the wad files, copy them to your hammer tools archive.
(the folder where you have your compile tools; rad, vis, bsp and cgf)
when you have copied all of the wad files you're done and ready to compile.

But only if you are using original textures
If you are using customs you will need to put those wads into the tools folder

Ok i downloaded GSF Scape, but im having a problem with that too:

Unable to execute file:
C:Program FilesGCFScapeGCFScape.exe

Create Process failed: code 14001
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

well, clearly it didnt as i reinstalled about 5 times, help ^^

EDIT: also i put that custom .wad into the valve hammer tools folder and still get the same message when i try to run the map, someone help me please! :(

Madcow, why did you tell him to get GCFscape?!

Just make sure that the .wad is in the mod your mapping for's folder, and that hammer is pointing to it, and nowhere else on your hard drive.

Jed's modelviewer is specifically for HL and it's mods. GCFscape is for anything that uses a GCF or PAK3 file.

It's pretty obvious which is better suited for HL related matters.

Jed's MDLV for HL1.
GCFScape for HL2.

Sorted.
