I have a very old half-life cd that is installed on my computer. When I try to play internet games it tries to look for updates but can't find any, so my brother just bought a new half-life cd. We put it in and it didnt ask us for the cd key this time but we reinstalled it "the new cd" and when trying to play internet games, it doesn't work. Some one told me something about needing deathmatch classic to allow it to work so i downloaded it but had no success. Please help me get hl working on internet, I have good internet connection"cable" and everything.

Just download and install Steam, then register it with it. After it's copied/downloaded or whatever it does, you won't need the WON version anymore, unless you want to just keep it for some small amount of backward compatibility (WON-only mods won't display things like menu backgrounds for Steam, but it plays the same.)

Get Steam and Steam-account. In Steam press on the "Activate a product on Steam..."-button then you're asked to write in the CD-key and then Half-Life will be available through Steam and auto-update itself to latest version.

Yes. Nowadays all multiplayer affairs are handled on a client called Steam.

As far as I know, you can add CD keys of a pre-Steam version of Half-Life to Steam, and you will automatically be given the Steam version for free.

If it hasn't already been registered, that is.
