Posted 16 years ago2007-12-05 17:18:59 UTC Post #239970
God damnit.

But why pay for hosting when you can use other's for free? They're just as good if not better.

Actually I have been working with sites free and paid for one since I was like 12 even before then and I have learned that free ones are worse because either they do advertising which slows down the site or they go ahead and restrict sum things like sum wont allow PHP sum wont allow java and more...I could keep going on...paying for mine you get PHP4 as it is more compatible right now than PHP5 but as more things become more acquaint with PHP5 I shall update it...and then on top of that you get a free mysql database and if you look at my site you can see that I am pretty decent at coding for sites and well I am willing to help you with making your site too for free...technically the only thing you would be paying for is for me to get you your own domain every year...

Luke, free sites never come with PHP or MySQL databases. Plus, if you want any sort of serious bandwidth, you'd better pay for it.

Dont get me wrong I did at one time enjoy free hosting but then my parents offered to pay for me to get a real one and well look at me now...I have unlimited power so it seems...

---Stixsmaster

P.S. almost forgot how much space do you get for your free host? as I said I get more than a gig obviously and so does Rimrock...that is more than the average site...

http://www.bluehost.com/ - 100$/year i like it ( my projectD2.com & dragonsart.ru hosted there)

Nevermind, though. You're offering basically domain hosting, something you can get with oxihosting but you have to contact the owner.

You get a lot more than a gig of space, AFAIK.

Bluehost is good but Monsterhost in my opinion is better...and their support is badass...on top of that...the amount of webspace you get from me is debatable...so yea...and you get PHP and mysql for free with my service of helpin to make site...

Can I just ask... did you join this website just to offer cheap web hosting?
Posted 16 years ago2007-12-05 19:31:00 UTC Post #239992
No I did not join just to offer cheap hosting...I am currently working on a HL1 MP map...

Hmm... I payed 100 bucks to get one year's worth of hosting at Bluehost, and now I'm not even going to use it. Ultra fail on my part.

I might consider this.

Woah Srry how much space did you get for that? :S For me I have 10 GB for 6 dollars so 100 dollars must be like roughly 170 GB D:

I think it's 300 GB... but that doesn't matter, it's the bandwidth and processing power you're paying for. Companies can afford to give you ridiculous amounts of space if they don't actually allow you to use it to its fullest. I'd much rather pay for ten gigabytes of space over 300 GB if they allowed you to use a bunch of their processing power, and they didn't limit your bandwidth to obscene amounts. I'm on a machine that's hosting a ton of other people, and we all have to share the same resources.

And anyway, you payed 6 dollars for a month, not a year, right? 100 dollars is the single payment for one full year of hosting, which ends up being about 8 dollars per month.

Try this: http://www.4cheapwebhosting.com/search/
I haven't used that myself, though, so I don't know how good the results will be...
Posted 16 years ago2007-12-06 13:01:11 UTC Post #240054
Price per megabyte of bandwidth or webspace isn't as important as uptime, service and PHP, MySQL etc. support. The cheapest host is very rarely the best.
