You just said that people vote for a map they like, and now you're admitting that the premise is that the voting is "The Citizen" vs. the rest.
If you're so stupid that you cant see that i'm using that as an example, you shouldn't be here. You seem to be the only person complaining about the system, so I instigated the example with YOUR map. Jesus, it's like having to talk to a three year old, having to explain everything in full. Else, you're just being a jackass. (more likely)
People should think who should win, not who shouldn't win.
They go hand-in-hand. Listen to me carefully, and read this sentence at least 100 times. Write it out on a piece of paper until it sinks into your thick skull.

IF SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT A PARTICULAR MAP TO WIN, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T ENJOY IT, AND LIKED ANOTHER MAP BETTER, THEY VOTE FOR THE MAP THAT THEY LIKED BETTER

I'll explain it because you seem to have a particular problem with understanding this.

IN YOUR CASE, your map is The Citizen. I say map because I'm not typing map/mod whenever I refer to a valid entry. There are a few people at TWHL - AT TWHL, NOT SOME OTHER SITE, TWHL. TWHL WITH THE TWHL MAP OF THE MONTH COMPETITION, NOT SOME OTHER RANDOM SITE THAT VOTED FOR YOUR ENTRY. TWHL. THE WHOLE HALF-LIFE. Anyway, there are a few people at [m]TWHL[/m] that didn't enjoy your map at all, and don't think that it should win the TWHL MOTM competition because these particluar people AT TWHL think that there are better maps that should win the competition. Because these people at TWHL think that The Citizen (which is only in here because you're the one complaining about people voting "against" The Citizen, which is your map) doesn't deserve the MOTM award, because they think that a certain map is better (in this case dm_particle), these particluar people AT TWHL, NOT SOME OTHER RANDOM SITE -these people vote for the map that they think is superior, because BY WANTING DM_PARTICLE TO WIN, THEY IN TURN DON'T WANT THE CITIZEN TO WIN. IF THEY WANTED THE CITIZEN TO WIN THEY WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR IT.

Playbus/ Kasberg: Do you guys have an ETA for the update to The Citizen? It'd be nice to finish the mod once the DX7 bug :combine: is fixed.

IF SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT A PARTICULAR MAP TO WIN, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T ENJOY IT, AND LIKED ANOTHER MAP BETTER, THEY VOTE FOR THE MAP THAT THEY LIKED BETTER
I know that, and I've said it repeatedly. But you either can't read or just don't get it, sigh
With a hidden vote, people would indeed do that. With the current public voting, people can rally and vote for a map which is not the one they've liked best (even if you claim it is) to vote against another one. Can you understand that last sentence, or should I type it again with capital letters?
Everything you're saying is just repeating what I said before, and ignoring what I have complained about. The proof is that I haven't even said what I think about dm_particle because that's not the issue at hand. Like I said, I don't care which map wins, because I've seen them and I know how to judge maps objectively, a skill some of you lack but which is essential to being part of a mapping community, not just a gaming one.

And for the nth time, I'm quite happy "some other random site" which is exclusively dedicated to reviewing singleplayer maps and mods has received it nicely.

Edit:a new revelation for you on how humans act. The number of people who like something can be big, and the number of people who don't can be small, yet they will always make more noise. That puts controversial maps at a disadvantage if you allow negative voting to happen. Should I write it in capital letters or is it understandable?

if you understand the voting system, why are you still bitching about "anti-votes"? or have you dropped it because you realise it's bullshit?

Not only do I not care about what you think about dm_particle or any other map for that matter, everyone on this site has the choice to vote using whatever categories they want. we aren't forcing people to vote for "best map in kasperg's opinion" we are asking for THEIR opinion. other people have them too you know. they can judge their map on gameplay, on architecture, on how fun it was, whatever they want. and if they want to vote for something because they dont want something else to win, they can do that too.

as you ignored before, i am not taking into consideration my opinion of your entry. you are just being a complete idiot. i am not saying this because i liked the map or not. i would still be here if i fully enjoyed the citizen.

if all this time you were saying that you wanted a silent voting system, why did you fuck around and not say that? you said it once, and i replied it was already planned for TWHL3. if you have an issue with the particular members of the site, take it up with them.

I'm being an idiot? Insults are the universal message for "I've run out of arguments". Of course I mentioned silent voting before, but you have kept defending the current system AS MUCH as I have been questionning it. It seems in the end you actually agree with me and you know the system is flawed because:
People can rally and vote for a map which is not the one they've liked best (even if you claim it is) to vote against another one.
What's your view on this?
Wait, don't tell me: "It's democracy, people can do whatever they want" as you said earlier. Since so can I, no harm done.
At least we've attracted more attention to the thread, haven't we? :)

ignoring valid points doesn't mean your invalid ones are correct. if someone wants to vote for a map, they can. there's no way of proving whether or not they played the map, so you can't say that someone voted to spite you.

if someone wants to save the thread, do it now. it will be deleted in half an hour. that's 15 past.

Why would you delete it? Been proven wrong too many times or what? I see no explanation to why you'd delete people's opinions regarding mapping and map rating. But do whatever you want and use that little joy in life the ultra-moderator powers grant you ;)

you see a reason to keep it? i don't. if you don't like how the site is managed, tough. i've contributed more to TWHL than you ever will.

Yes, no doubt about it ;).

at least we agree on something. when TWHL3 comes around, you'll get your silent votes. until then, just ignore the MOTM page and threads.

Ok, seems fair. But I'm still reviewing October's winner.
(by the way, are any of those contributions to the site something that we can see right now, or is it related to coding? I'm asking because my contributions include having more than 40.000 people finding out about this site through the Kaufmann House mention in the Wikipedia article. It might not be as great as your coding contributions, but it's also something, right? :) )
