ROFL LAME-ASS.
Sorry, I had to. But that is completely pointless. Doesn't even try to improve. Besides, if you can making something in VB, why can't you take the time to learn mapping or C++?
Posted 16 years ago2007-12-17 23:31:04 UTC Post #241405
Because VB = n00bisest language in the world.

If you can add and subtract, why can't you learn calculus, lol?
Posted 16 years ago2007-12-17 23:38:10 UTC Post #241406
oh but you can! it just takes time. ^_^ i can add and subtract, and in 2 years, i'll start learning calc...

and really, if we're going to go completely literal, then html = noobiest language in the world... especially because you can do shit nothing with it

Ummm... you can make simple web pages with it.

Also, in the example, I was assuming a situation where you couldn't do anything BUT add or subtract. To make my point clearer. I was talking about VB compared to C++ though, not mapping.

I've been mapping for a couple years now, and developing skills over time. :hammer: You can't just leap into a large-scale project and expect things to be easy. That's experience talking there. I started on a mini-mod type thing myself, fairly early into my mapping time. I didn't even start mapping for it because I KNEW my mapping skills needed much more improvement before a could do it. But I got what I could do done (which was mostly customization) and it's been laying dormant for about a year now. I add one or two things every now and then.

When I'm certain of my mapping skills and I've made a few good maps, then I'll see what I can do. Until then, it shall lie, waiting to be rediscovered... :ciggie:

I had to learn some things my self, but i was happy with bits that you people would say 'needs improving' 'add more detail' etc.

but as the saying goes: "Beauty is in the eyes of the be-holder"
or something like that.

In fact, I made a map and put it on here to get commented on so I could see what I did wrong/badly, and therefore increase my skill. However, noone commented. Someone said that it was missing a wad (even though I thought i went through at fixed it up), so I'll have to check into it.

If you wanna see it, check it out here. If you find out which wad it was, please let me know, as I don't really have the time to find it right now.

I no i made lightboxes but i do that in the end

You should try making the ceiling texture a bit different from the ground. And the map has a good feel to it despite the lack of light 'source'.
Rooms still feel empty.
Remember, the best thing about an environment is getting the feeling you belong there and your surrounding is believable!!
Keep it up. you're improving. :)

Texture lighting greiko... you need texture lighting severely.

Also experiment with making door frames between rooms. It helps to break up the map into different sections, and then you can have different ceiling heights and stuff too.

the first part wasnt meant to have a frame so there =]

Now it's starting to look like a storage room! I still think the area is a bit too wide open. But It's getting better.

Need some boxes at middle of the room. I don't like the box texture you have chosen. Add some more detail like more boxes of different sizes and some other things.

You are improving
Posted 16 years ago2007-12-23 21:36:26 UTC Post #241826
And boxes with different textures.
A lightswitch perhaps?

A big closed door that they use to get the bigger things like crates into the room in the first place.

Remember, look at every object in your map and ask yourself: "How did that get there?"
